T%V_V District Clerk November 17, 2010 1 t Mid peninsula Regional • ' Open Space District R-10-143 Meeting 10-34 November 22, 2010 AGENDA ITEM I AGENDA ITEM Initial Interviews of Applicants for the Office of Ward 2 Director GENERAL MANAGER'S RECOMMENDATION Conduct the Initial Interviews of applicants for the Office of Ward 2 Director and Determine Which Applicants Will be Invited for the Final Round of Interviews on November 29, 2010.. SUMMARY The General Manager recommends that the District Board of Directors proceed with the interviews of six (6) applicants for the vacant seat of Director for Ward 2 and determine which applicants will be selected for the final round of interviews scheduled for November 29, 2010. DISCUSSION At its meeting on October 13, 2010, the Board approved the process of appointment to fill the vacant seat of Director for Ward 2 due to the death of President Mary Davey on October 2, 2010 (See Report R-10-118). Accordingly, during the week of October 18, 2010, the District started the recruitment process for the Ward 2 Director seat and received a total of nine (9) applicants at the end of the recruitment period on November 8, 2010.Seven(7) applicants were determined eligible. However, on November 15, 2010, the District Clerk was notified by Mr. Arthur Hake that he was withdrawing himself from consideration, resulting in six (6) eligible applicants. At the November 17, 2010 Board meeting, the Board determined that the six (6) applicants would be interviewed by the Board on November 22, 2010. The General Manager recommends that the District Board of Directors interview the following applicants at the November 22, 2010 Special Board meeting: • Arthur Deex • Breene Kerr • Frances Mann-Kraik • Sean McKenna • Yoriko Kishimoto • Cynthia"Ciddy" Wordell R-10-136 Page 2 The District Clerk has invited members of the public to forward written comments regarding the candidates and/or to submit questions they would like the Board to ask candidates. The District Clerk has requested that comments and/or questions be submitted no later than 12:00 p.m., Monday, November 22, 2010, at the District Administration Office or by e-mail to mradcliffeLz),openspace.or to ensure that there is adequate time to provide them to the Board of Directors prior to the start of the meeting. FISCAL IMPACT There are no unbudgeted fiscal impacts associated with the recommendation. PUBLIC NOTICE Public notice was provided as required by the Brown Act. No additional notice is required. CEQA COMPLIANCE No environmental review is required as the recommended action is not a project under CEQA NEXTSTEP Once the Board has determined which candidate(s) will be invited to the final round of the interviews the Clerk will notice a Special Board meeting for November 29, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. to conduct the final interview(s).
