HomeMy Public PortalAboutOrd. 0223ORDINANCE Nr.z2 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD REGULATING SUPERVISION OF PUBLIC DANCES IN THE CITY OF LYNWOOD. The City Council of the City of Lynwood do ordain as follows: SECTION I: It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to conduct or maintain any public dance hall, dancing club or place where public dancing is provided for, with- out having first obtained a permit and license therefor. SECTION I1 : Application for such permit shall be made to the City Council, and the Council hereby reserves the right to reject such application should it, after such investiga- tion as it may deem sufficient, determine that such permit, or the conduct of business thereunder, would be detrimental to the public welfare. SECTION III Should such permit be granted, then the License Clerk shall issue a license thereunder, which shall be re- vocable by the City Council at any time thereafter, should it, after such investigation as it msy deem sufficient, determine that the same, or the conduct of the business thereunder, has become detrimental to the public welfare. SECTION IV: The fee for such license shall be the sum of $25.00 per annum, payable annually in advance, and in addition to such license fee, such licensee shall, on the first day of each week, deposit with the License Clerk the sum of $1.00 for each hour during the previous week in which any dancing has been conducted under such license, such deposit being for the payment of the costs of such special supervision as the Chief of Police may deem advisable. The Chief of Police is hereby authorized to waive any of the said weekly deposits of any licensee should he determine that no special supervision is necessary as to such licensee. -1- SECTION V: Ary person, firm or corporation con- ducting or maintaining any public dance hall, dancing club or place where public dancing is provided for, without having a valid license therefor, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction therefor shall be punishable by a fine not exceeding $300.00 or by imprisonment for a period not exceeding three months, or by both such fine and imprisonment. SECTION V I: The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this ordinance and cause the same to be published once in the Lynwood Press and the same shall become effective thirty days from the passage thereof.
