HomeMy Public PortalAboutOrd. 0228ORDINANCE NO 229 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD REGULATING THE KEEPING OF DOGS. The City Council of the City of Lynwood, do ordain as follows: SECTION I: Whenever in the judgment of the Public Health Officer the public health and safety so requires, said officer shall declare and establish a rabies quarantine zone or area consisting of the whole or any part of the City and maintain such quarantine therein until such time as he may deem it advisable to lift the same. SECTION II: That it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to suffer or permit any dog over the age of four months owned by him or it to run at large on any public street, alley, park or public place in the City of Lynwood, unless such dog have a muzzle of such strength and shape as to prevent such dog from biting any person, or unless such dog shall have been inoculated for rabies within one year previous thereto by a veterinarian authorized to practice veterinary medicine or surgery in this State, in which latter case such dog shall have attached to the collar thereof a metal tag bearing the inscription (inoculated - rabies and date of inoculation). SECTION III: That it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to suffer or permit any dog over the age of four months owned by him or it, to run upon any private property in the City of Lynwood, unless such dog be kept in an enclosure or securely tied up in such manner as to prevent such dog from biting any person, or unless such dog shall have been inoculated for rabiea as provided in Section II hereof. SECTION IV: The pound master, or any public health officer or police officer, is hereby authorized to persue and take upon any public or private property any dog suspected of being a stray -1- . r • y or of being dangerous to the public or of being infected with rabier�, and to persue and take any dog from any area quarantined on account of rabies. SECTION V shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation owning or having the control of any dog to permit the same to run at large in any area quarantined on account of rabies or to permit any female dog to run at large when the same is "in heat ". SECTIOK VI: The pound master or any public health officer or police officer is hereby authorized to enter upon any private property while engaged in the discharge of his duties under this ordinance. SECTION VII: Any violation of this ordinance shall be a misdemeanor and shall be punishable by a fine of not more than $25.00 or by imprisonment in the City or County Tail for a period not to exceed ten days, or by both such fine and imprisonment. SECTION VIII: The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this ordinance and cause the same to be published once in the Lynviood Trinune , which newspaper is designated for that purpose.
