Re: Monthly Department Report — June 2020
City of McCa11
1. Weather:
June weather started very wet with sporadic warm spells and rounding out the month wet again.
2. Staff:
At the end of June, there were all 3 full time staff plus 17 seasonal staff, of which 7 are part
time. The department hired a couple of extra this year to cover those with a planned absence or
out sick.
3. Greens:
Greens were in great shape but a little out of control as staff were struggling with sprayer
challenges.
4. Club House
Club House is busy keeping things spread out as much as possible. Both Proshop and
Restaurant seem to be functioning well. They were reminded to have staff masked.
5. Maintenance Building:
The maintenance building has been masks on when the crew is in and social distancing is
impossible. The main doors are left open as much as possible to keep the air fresh.
6. Equipment Maintenance:
The mechanic has been fighting two pieces of equipment this season. One of the fairway
mowers is having issues with the groomer and after much struggle, the part was removed. This
was a used piece when purchased. The other problematic piece of equipment is the newer used
sprayer. It has been having rate control problems and staff has basically replaced everything on
it to finally get it to work consistently. Between the sprayer and the weather, it has been
frustrating to be able to get things sprayed.

7. Restaurant:
Banyan's on the Green is open with tables spread out and a lower amount of people
allowed in the building. They also are doing a limited menu because of staffing issues and
just downsizing.
8. Asset Mana2ement/Master Plan:
The Golf Course Architect was up and did two presentations: one for the Golf Course Advisory
Committee and another for the Men's Association. He went over what he saw as priorities and
asked the members to offer opinions. He has also spent more time on the course.
9. Tournaments:
The 2 Man Best Ball was held Father's Day weekend. This in the past was done as a double
shotgun which always had large gatherings of participants. This year, it was done on tee times
and worked very well. There were no large gatherings in any of the practice areas or the club
house and restaurant. Parking which in the past was problematic, was a breeze. I participated in
the tournament and enjoyed the experience and have expressed my feeling that we continue
this way. It was also a lot better for the restaurant as they were not slammed then nothing. This
helped them with staffing. The Senior Match Play was held the last week of June and as was
tee times and is working very well. Tee time tournaments have also help staff on the
maintenance side to get work done ahead of play.
10. Irrigation:
Irrigation system was not used much in June due to the wet weather. There were finally some
warm dry days that made it possible to water in the fertilizer but the whole course was only
irrigated a couple of times all month. There was one big break in the line on Cedar that has
since been repaired and several leaky heads but all in all it is working well. Nice to have the
weather station back up and running. The old Rain Bird rep has started his own company to
fix issues golf course staff cannot figure out. For example, staff has been fighting the weather
station for several years and he was able to get it running again.
