HEREIN: PRESC:ZIBING THE. PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION OF THE 2ROVI6IOD6 HEREOF, AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES INCONSISTE_T HERM1ITH. The City Council of.the City of Lynwood, California, does ordain as follows, to'tivit: DEFINITIONS SECTION 1: For the purpose of this Ordinance, certain terms' ' used herein,- are defined as follows: all vaords s `ed.in the present tense shall include the future; all words in the`,J)lural number shall include the singular number and all words used in the singular number shall include the plural number; the word "lot" includes the word "plot" or "plat." "ALLEY" shall mean any public thoroughfare for the use of pedestrians aAd/or "vehicles, not less than ten feet nor more than twenty'feet.in width, which has been deeded or dedicated to the .City and shown as such on the .official maps,of Ahe City Engineer. "ACCESSORY" shall mean any building aadlor structure, or portion of any main building, the use and maint; lance of which is incidental to. the use and maintainance of the ¢c building, and which is used exclusively by the occupants of the rnainrbuilding,.and which is located.on the same lot or parcel of. land. "AiicA OF LO`T ". shall mean the total horizontal area included within lot lines, -and shall include one -half of„t.he width of any alley . or portion thereof,. abutting such lot line, -1- "APAPTi shall mean a room or suite of two or. more rooms which is designed, intended and /or occupied by one • family,for living and 'sleeping premises, "9PAIZIJIL INN HOUSE" shall mean any building or portion thereof more than one story in.heighth which is designed, intended, built, rented; leased, let or hired to be occupied, or which is occupied as the home or 'residence of three or more families, living independent of each other in such building. "BLOCK" shall mean thall property abuttin;; on one side of the street, and lying between the - two nearest intersecting . or intercepting. streets, or nearest intersecting or intercepting streets and railroad " right of. way. "BUILDING" shall, mean any structure for the shelter, use and /or o enclosure of any person, animal,. or chattel; .and when any portion thereof i s'. completely separated from every other portion thereof, by a wall without windows, doors, or other opening therein, and which, wall extends from the ground to the upuer.surface'of the roof.at every point, then each portion shall be separate building. "BUNG&LOoi COURT", shall mean separate individual' residence units having no common wall. "BUSINESS 03 COYjdrRCL" shall mean the purchase, sale- or other transaction involvin the handling or disposition of any article, . substance- or commodity for profit, or livlihood, and shall include the operation of office buildings, offices, - ail( recreation or amusement enterprises. "001,.ISSlON!'. shall - mean the City Planning Commission. "CORNER LOT" is a lot situated at the•intersection of tyio or "more dedicated public streets, providing that the angle of intersection does not exceed 135 one dimension of which lot, measured on the street line, shall not exceed.seventy -five feet. "i3OURT APAiTDIEETS" shall mean multiple, dwelling units built under one roof, and contained in a building not to exceed one story in heighth. "DEPTH OF LOT" shall mean the average distance from the street line of-the lot to the.rear line measured in the general direction of the side lines of the lot. "DUPLEX" shall mean a building of one or - two stories in heighth housing two dwelling units. -. "DRVELLING" shall mean any building or portion thereof, which is neither an apartment house, or a hotel, as defined in this Ordinance, and which contains living rooms, which are designed, intended,, and built for or uset.and occupied as a unit for living quarters. "FAIvZILY" shall mean an individual or two or more persons living together as a single housekeeping unit. "FLOOR AREA" is the area included within the exterior vialls . and fire walls of a building exclusive of vent shafts and courts. "FRONT WALL" .shall mean the wall of the building, structure, or improvement: nearest the street upon which the building,faces. "GARAGE APARTMENT" shall mean.a residence unit or units built . or maintained over . a one private garage. "HOTEL" is any building containing six or more rooms intended or designed to be used, or which are used, rented, or hired out to be, occupied, or which are occupied for sleeping purposes. by guests. 11 INDUSTRIA1 BUILDING" shall mean a building or roofed enclosure devoted to the storage, repair, manufacture, preparation or treatment of any article, substance, or .commodity, whatsoever and includes accessory buildings and warehouses and garages. . °INDUSTRY" shall mean the storage, repair, manufacture, prep aration of any article, substance, or commodity whatsoever, and including the operation of. workshop and incidental..ga.rage-. "INSIDE LOT" shall mean.a lot with not more than either or both ends abutting upon a dedicated public street, or alley. "KEY LOT" shall mean the first lot to the'rear of a corner lot, the front line of which is a continuation of the side line of the corner lot, and fronting.on the street which intersects the street upon which the corner lot fronts. "LOT" shall mean - a parcel of land abutting on at least one street or alley. 4Ihere no alley exists the rear line of the lot having a frontage of two parallel streets or approximately parallel streets. shall be considered as.equi- distant from those streets, except where the full length or depth of such lot is less than one hundred forty feet, in which case it shall be deemed one lot. "LOT FRONT" shall mean the front of 'a lot as shown by the recorded plat thereof._ "LOT LINE" shall mean the established divisi.on lines between parcels of property, public or private, and may include.different portions of lots as platted, and shall include all of the premises, upon which a building is built or used. "AMAIN BUILDING" shall mean any building and /or structure except an accessory.which ' is specifically aLlowed by this Ordinance in the zone in which it is located. "PRIVATE GARAGE" means housing quarters for motor vehicles, and such storage room as may be required for a private family.' "PUBLIC STREETS" shall mean the land dedicated to or.condemned for us.e as a public highway, or established as such by use and designated in the Official Records of the City as streets. "RESIDENCE" is a place of abode and private living quarters of one or more persons living as a unit, and shall include all buildingsi and yards arid. premises used for such purpose. _4- �..
