1 ORDINANCE NO. 399
2 AN ORDINANCE OF THE INCORPORATED CITY OF LYNWOOD.
CREATING SPECIAL POLICE OFFICERS AND THEIR REGU-
3 LATIONS AND PROVIDING A PENALTY FOR THE VIOLATION
OF THE ORDINANCE. Si::
4 THE CITY COUNCIL OF' THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES OR

DAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I
6 That there is hereby created. in the City of Lynwood;
7 California, Special Police Officers.
8 SECTION II.
9 The duties of Special Police Officers shall be as
10 follows:
11 To act as emergency police; as night watchmen; private
12 police patrols; as police investigators, as snel]. be designated by
13 the apoointing authority. Every such special police officer snall
14 be limited in his authority and duties in the corporate limits of
15 the city of L and to such specific duties or activities as
16 shall be designated by the • chief of police of such city in making
17 such appointment.
18 SECTION III
19 No Special Police Officer shall engage in any special
20 police activity until -and unless he shall have been awarded a badge,
21 and shall wear and display the same at all times during his activity

22 as such officer.
23 SECTION IV
24 All applications by persons for appointment for the
25 office of Special Police shall be made in writing to the chief of
26 police In said city, and shall conform in all respects to.sucn reru-
27 lations as the chief of police of said city may prescribe from time
28 to time.

30 Upon being satisfied that there is a need. tnerefore
31 and that the appointment is sufficiently qualified, the chief of
32 police may appoint any person wno is a citizen of the United States

.and.who is over the age of twenty -one years Special Police Officer
of the city of Lynwood. The appointee shall then appear before the
city clerk and take the oath of office and deposit with the clerk th
sum of Four ($4 ?00) Dollars,.to cover the expense of the badge bears g
a serial number.
All Special Police badges are to be issued by and returned
to the chief of police of said city.. Upon the surrender of a
Special Police badge the chief of police snail receipt therefore
and. request the city clerk to refund the deposit.
SECTION VI
All Special Police badges are to bear a serial.number.
It Is hereby ordained to be unlawful for any person other
than the person designated toowear or display a Special Police
badge other than the particular badge issued to such officer.
SECTION VII
•It is hereby ordained to.be unlawful for any person in
the city of Lynwood to wear or display any police badge not specifi
cally issued to such persona
It is further ordained to be-unlawful for.any person to
continue to possess or to with -hold, or cause to be with -held any
police badge of the of Lynwood, after the same nas been re-
called or with -held by the chief of police'of the city of Lynwood.
SECTION VIII
Every person having a police badge issued to them as afo
said by the city of Lynwood, shall keep the. chief of police fully
advised. of their present address and telephone number.
SECTION IX
The chief of police shall have the rignt to recall any
Special police badge at any time, with or without cause and each
and every special police officer shall within twenty -four nours
after notice of recall, surrender such badge to the chief of police
of baid city.

Every person convibted of a

may be sentenced by the judge of the
city court
of said city of

Lynwood, to pay a fine not exceeding
One Hundred
($fi100.00) Dollars

or imprisonment in the ,jail of the
said city of
Lynwood, for a

period not to exceed fifty days, or
by both sucn
fine and imprison

ment.
22 SECTION XIV
23 The -City Clerk is nereoy directed to publisn tnis ordin-
24 anee oneoissuesin the Lynwood Press, after the ordinance Is
25 fibnally passed and adopted.
26 PASSED AND ADOPTED this lst day of August 1944, at the
27 regular - - - August meeting of the city council of the city of
28 11- Lynwood.•
