A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF LYNWOOD SUPPORTING JUVENILE ASSISTANCE
DIVERSION EFFORT (JADE) TO SECURE FUNDING
UNDER THE UNIFORM STATE AND COUNTY JUSTICE
AB -90 SUBVENTION PROGRAM AND THE FEDERAL
JUVENILE JUSTICE AND DELINQUENCY PREVENTION
ACT
WHEREAS, the County of Los Angeles,. via its Uniform
County Justice System Subvention Program, will plan and allocate
1982 -83 Los Angeles County available State AB -9.0 and Federal
Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act funds; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood is a part of Project
JADE, a successful 7 year established Delinquency Prevention
Project network of 10 Southeast Los Angeles communities; re-
presenting portions of four Los Angeles County Board of Super -'
visor's areas including Bell, Cudahy, Huntington Park, Lynwood,
Maywood, South Gate, Compton, Florence, Firestone, and Walnut
Park; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood has invested significant
amounts of staff time, citizen involvement, resources and money
in the planning, development, administration and ongoing opera-
tion of the Project JADE Diversion and Delinquency Prevention
Program which provides funds for services to over seven (7)
contracted for services professional, non - profit, community
based organizations serving the JADE communities; and
WHEREAS, the County Board of Supervisors has indicated
a.continuing dedication and desire to support and allocate State -
and Federal Delinquency Control funds to community responsive and
appropriately designed and operated Delinquency Prevention
Programs; and
WHEREAS, the intent of the State AB -90 Act and Federal
Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act is within`
of the activities and proven cost - effective abilities of the JADE
Project; ,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Lynwood
supports the JADE Project in seeking funding under the AB -90
Uniform Justice System Subvention Program, the JJDP Act Program,
and the other appropriate programs and urges the County of Los
Angeles to recognize the already established JADE youth and young
adult service delivery system for 1982 -83 funds.
