RESOLUTION NO. 82 -51
A RESOLUTION O,F.THE.C,ITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
OPPOSING THE .IMPLEMENTATION,OF_ A CHARGE FOR WRAMEDIC
TRAINING PROPOSED BY THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY HEALTH
SERVICES.
WHEREAS, on March 5, 1982, the, Director of _'Health Services
of Los Angeles County has,recommended ` tfat cities be charged for the
training of Paramedics; and y
WHEREAS, the Lynwood City Council is desirous of providing
Paramedic Service for the citizens of Lynwood; and
WHEREAS, the training and certification of paramedics is
a County mandated program, we are prohibited by law from doing our own
training,, the County should therefore be responsible for paying County
mandated costs; and
WHEREAS, Paramedic Service is an emergency service, it
would be in the public interest to provide basic public safety services,
including paramedic training, under the County General Fund; and
WHEREAS, all local agencie

preparations, this is too late a date to propose such charges to local
agencies. There is not sufficient time in which to identify additional -
resources to pay for this program and local agencies need more lead time
to plan for such a program; and
WHEREAS, local agencies provide part of this paramedic
training by "interning" new paramedics in the field for two of the five
month training program, if the County proposes to levy charges for training
our paramedics, we should, in turn, charge the County for interning their
trainees;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Lynwood that:
SECTION 1 . The Lynwood City Council hereby urges the
Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to reject the proposed paramedic
charges proposed by the Director of Health Services.
SECTION 2 : This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its adoption.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 6th day of
April 1982.
