AN ORDINANCE AMENDING
SECTION 828.09 OF THE
MEDINA CITY CODE REGARDING
LANDSCAPING IN COMMERCIAL
AND INDUSTRIAL DISTRICTS
The City Council of the City of Medina ordains as follows:
Section 828.09 of the Medina City Code is amended by deleting the str#e#ea
material and adding the underlined material as follows:
828.09. Landscaping. Subdivision 1. In commercial and industrial districts
an area equal to a minimum of 25 percent of the lot shall be landscaped with
grass or other ground cover, shrubbery and trees. The landscaping shall be
concentrated between the principal structure and any adjacent street or
right-of-way or other areas of the lot which are visible form a street or
right-of-way.
Subd. 2. A minimum of three units of landscaping shall be required for
each 1,000 square feet or fraction thereof of gross building area der --tote
first up to 10,000 square feet. An additional two units of landscaping shall
be required for each 1,000 square feet or fraction thereof of gross building
area over 10,000 and up to 50,000 square feet. An additional unit of land-
scaping shall be required for each 1,000 square feet or fraction thereof of
gross building area over 50,000 and up to 100,000 square feet. The City shall
have the authority to require landscaping in excess of the minimum quantities
specified in this subdivision if the minimum landscaping would be inadequate
to mitigate adverse visual impacts on adjacent properties or streets. If
healthy landscaping of acceptable species exists on a site prior to develop-
ment, the City may allow credit for such landscaping in meeting the require-
ments of this subdivision.
Subd. 3. Landscaping materials shall meet the following minimum size
requirements:

coniferous trees
shrubbery

1 1/2 inch diameter

5 gallons
Each of the above shall constitute one unit of landscaping. Not more
than 50 percent of the landscaping units required by subdivision 2 of this
section shall be shrubbery.

Subd. 34 All landscaping shall be properly maintained and any dead or
diseased material shall be removed and replaced with material meeting the
requirements of this section. The city shall require submission of a land-
scaping bond in an amount equal to 150 percent of the value of the landscaping
to ensure compliance with this section.

Medina, Independence, Hanover, and Rockford Township in the County of Hennepin and the County
)f Wright and it has its known office of issue in the City of Rockford in said Hennepin County and
Nright County, established and open during its regular business hours for the gathering of news, sale
)f advertisements and sale of subscriptions and is maintained by. the managing officer of said
lewspaper or persons in its employ and is subject to his directions and control during all such
-egular hours and at which time said newspaper is printed. (6) Said newspaper files a copy of each
issue immediately with the State Historical Society. (7) Said newspaper is made available at single
)r subscription prices to any person, corporation, partnership or other unincorporated association
requesting the newspaper and making applicable payment. (8) Said newspaper has complied with all
the foregoing conditions for at least one year preceding the day or dates of publication mentioned
below. (9) Said newspaper annually publishes and submits to the secretary of state a sworn United
States Post Office second-class statement of ownership and circulation.
