HomeMy Public PortalAbout82-078 (05-18-82)RESOLUTION NO 82 -78 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYN1400D AMENDING THE EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION AND POSITION PLAN WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Lynwood adopted the Employee Classification and Position Plan on April 6, 1980 and has amended same as needed; and WHEREAS, the collection of, and accountability for, monies is deemed a. clerical function required on various levels of some Secretary positions; and WHEREAS, the current description omits specification of these cashiering 'duties, but subsumes them under the category of "related duties "; and WHEREAS, it is desireable to list distinct duties as much as possible, with- out being overly detailed, on classification statements, NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Lynwood does hereby resolve as follows; SECTION 1 : Amend the Employee Classification and Position Plan to sub- stitute the attached revised Secretary classification statement for the current job description. TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED (These examples do not list all the duties which may be assigned; any one position may not include all the duties listed) Takes and transcribes dictation; prepares correspondence, inter - office forms, requisitions, contracts; takes minutes at meetings and prepares and distributes agendas. Types correspondence and other materials on a variety of general and technical topics of a confidential nature; operates other standard office machines, including copiers, calculators, cash register. Exercises discretion and judgement on minor administrative decisions; develops and implements procedures for expediting the flow of clerical work through the office. Maintains control over incoming and outgoing correspondence; composes correspon- dence on . a variety of subjects. Receives phone calls and visitors, acts as receptionist and refers to appropriate department; arranges for meetings, conferences, appointments, and interviews and handles assigned matters personally. Keeps inventory, and other records and develops office forms and procedures. Acts as an intermediary for the department administrator, maintaining frequent. contact with public and officials. Handles complaints, supplies information such as from the City Code and Resolutions explaining; departmental procedures; interprets regulations according to established j standards. Issues permits in accordance with municipal codes and in response to personal and mail requests; registers for City programs; eollecta and accounts for monies received. Performs related work as assigned. MIMIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED Knowledge of business English and spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.. Knowledge of or ability to learn any specialized clerical operation of the depart- ment to which assigned. Ability to perform clerical functions independently and to make minor decisions in accordance with established regulations, procedures or policy. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
