Dia de los ninos
On April 30, the library, the elementary school, Chapala’s Restaurant, and Ridley’s co-sponsored Idaho’s newest holiday, Dia de los ninos – The Day of the Child, a holiday from Mexico.
The event began at the elementary school, where 96 school children and 16 volunteer parents formed a parade behind a banner and a mariachi band in a trailer. Escorted by the police,
the parade wound through the streets of McCall and ended at the library, where 23 preschoolers and their mothers joined the party on the front lawn. There were 3 pinatas full of candy
and toys, which were broken in the traditional manner, two book readings, including Elaine Romano, a local author who has written a children’s book/coloring book in English and Spanish,
and a craft sponsored by the Parents as Teachers. Each child received a free copy of the book, candy, and a popcycle courtesy of Ridley’s. In all, there were nearly 150 participants
in the parade and party.
