RESOLUTION NO. 83 -26
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF LYNWOOD, CALIFORNIA, COMMENDING
DOCTOR WILSON RILES FOR TWELVE YEARS OF
SERVICE AS SUPERINTENDENT OF EDUCATION
FOR THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA.
WHEREAS, Dr. Wilson Riles served for twelve years as
Superintendent of Public Instruction for'the State of
California; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Riles began his career in the Louisiana
public school system; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Riles served as Chairman of the Task
Force on Urban Education in the United States Office of
Education; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Riles has held presidential appointments
as a member of the Task Force on Urban Educational Opportunities
and as a member of the National Council on Educational Research;
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Riles was at the helm of the California
educational system during one of the stormiest periods in
the history of the State; and
WHEREAS, Dr.

Riles weathered such issues as busing,
shrinking test scores and decreased
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That Dr. Wilson Riles has made an immeas-
urable contribution to education.
Section 2. That Dr. Riles stands as a model and
inspiration for all.
Section 3. That Dr. Riles epitomizes all that is
sought in quality public service.
