AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING THE POSITION
OF OF~IBUS OPERATOR IN THE BOROUGH OF CAILTERET
BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Carteret that
there is hereby created the Position of Omnibus Operator in the Borough
of Ca~teret. The Omnibus Operator shall work under the direction of
the Municipal Parks Superintendent and shall perform the work set forth
herein.
SECTION 1. DEFI2~ITION.
Under direction of the Municipal Parks Superintendent, an ~nnibus
Operator drives a motor vehicle with a passenger capacity of at
least six persons for transporting people on assigned established
routes or to special activities, events or various destinations;
may also clean, service and make minor repairs to such vehicles;
does related work, as required.
SECTION 2. EXAMPLES OF kORK.
Drives motor vehicl~ and transports persons on established routes,
on field or athletic trips, sight seeing tours, or to various
destination.
Checks, cleans and performs minor servicing of vehicles.
Checks vehicles for operating safety and gas, oil, battery or
water levels before departure.
Assists passengers into and off vehicles.
Maintains discipline amoung persons.
May assist passengers in loading and unloading baggage or packages
from vehicle.
Prepares suitable reports mhd maintains log of vehicle operation.
May be required to learn to utilize v~rious types of electronic
and/or manual recording and information system, s used by the agency.
SECTION 3. REQUIRMMENTS. License
Appointee r~ast possess a valid Cormmrcial Driver's License (CDL)
and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle
being operated.
NOTE: ~e responsibility for ensuring that employees possess the
required motor vehicle license, conmensurate with the class and
type of vehicles they operate, rests with the appointing authority.
Knowledge_and Abilities
Knowledge of the care, maintenance, competent, safe and efficient
operation of vehicles including cleaning, ]_ubricating, servicing
of batteries, care of tires and of minor repair procedures.
Knowledge of State Motor Vehicle Regulations.

Ability to a~alyze prob[a]~s involving the operation of vehicles.
Ability to understand, renmn~er and car,~y out oral and written
directions.
Ability to perform tasks after cx},lanations and/or denpnstrations.
Ability to drive vehicles in a skilled and safe manner.
Ability to check, clean, service and ,ake minor and et~mrgency
repairs to vehicles.
Ability to keep necessary records.
Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or
manual recording and information systems used by the agency,
office or related urLits.
Ability to read, write, sp.eak, understand or corm~unicate in
English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
Anmrican Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as
acceptable forms of comnmication.
Persons with mental or physical disabilities are eligible as long
as they can perform the essential functions of the job after
reasonable acco.n~pdation is ,~ade to their lmo~ lh~fftations. If
the acconn~}dation cannot be ~(te because it would cause the em-
ployer undue hardship, such persons n~y not be eligible.
