AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI,
PERTAINING TO QUALIFICATION FOR DOOR TO DOOR SALES LICENSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Chapter 24 (Peddlers, Door To Door Sales , And Temporary Business
Licenses) Section 52 (Investigations; issuance or denial; contents) is amended as follows:
Sec. 24-52. Investigation; issuance or denial; contents.
A. Upon receipt of an a pplication und er thi s articl e, the original s hall be referred to the chief of police, w ho,
with the finance department, s ha ll cause an investigation of the app lic a nt. If it is found that the applicant
ha s been convicted within the past five (5) years of a crime or ordinance which r e lates to hi s fitne ss to carry
on the proposed business or activity or has served any portion of a sentence or probationary period
imposed for such crime or ordinance violation by a Court of the United States within the past five (5)
years, the chief of police sha ll endorse on such application hi s di s approval , a nd hi s r easons for the same,
and r eturn the applicati o n to th e finance departme nt , w hi c h sha ll notify the ap plica nt that hi s application is
di sapproved and that no li cense w ill be iss ue d.
B. If, as a result of s uch inves tig ation, the a pplicant is found Ret to be ffieligible for the license, the chief of
police shall endorse on the ap pl ication hi s approval, execute a permit addressed to the ap pli cant for the
carrying on of th e bus in ess app li ed for and return s uc h permit, a lo ng w ith the ap plication, to the financ e
d epartmen t, w hich upon pay men t of th e prescribed li cense fe e, issue s the li cense. S uch license sha ll
contain the s ig nature and seal of th e iss uing officer and s hall show the name, address and photograph of
s uch licensee, the class of license is sued and the kind of goods to be so ld thereunder, the amount of fee
paid, the date of iss uance and the le ngth of time the same shall be operative, as well as the li cense number
and other identifying description of any ve hicle used in such peddling, so li c iting or canvassing.
Section 2. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after the date of its
passage and approval.
