HomeMy Public PortalAbout19860407 NEW COUNCIL 414 REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING, April 7, 1986 A Regular Council Meeting was called to order at 7:30 P.M. with all To Mayor George Hartsfield presiding. • •er Prayer was offered by Reverend Spencer Roberts , Pastor of the Second Baptist Church, Jefferson City, Missouri. The following Council Members were present : Present : Borgmeyer, Davis , Gordon, Haake, Halsey, Huffman, Roll Call • Nelson, Veile, Viessman and Woodman Absent : None A quorum was declared present . f f`' The first item of business was a presentation from the gallery Presentation concerning Bill No. 85-211 making Martin Luther King's Birthday a from Gallery City Holiday. Those present to speak in favor of this Bill were Reverend Spencer Roberts , Pastor of Second Baptist Church in King Holiday Jefferson City; Representative Mary Bland from Kansas City, Missouri; who is also the Chairperson for the Missouri Black Caucus . Also speaking in favor of the bill were William Rice from the NAACP; Darvin Green, President of the Student Government Association; and Jack Atterbury, a resident of Jefferson City. No one was present to speak in opposition to this bill. The Firefighters Local 671 had asked to be put on the Agenda, but Local 671 an agreement had been reached on a work agreement and they did not wish to speak. Mr. . Darrell Dunafon from the Downtown Merchants ' Association was Downtown present to speak to the Council about some of the concerns the t rchant' downtown merchants have about lighting, sidewalks and parking in Assoc. the downtown area. Mr. Dunafon stated the desire of the merchants to work with the council to improve these conditions . The next item of business was a request from Councilman Halsey to fil]. 85-211 change the order of the agenda and that. 131..1.1 05-211 be brought King holiday off of the Informal Calendar and considered at this time . Councilman Nelson was indicated as having both moved .'-t Minutes and seconded the same motion. Councilman Veile agreed to be :f; shown as having seconded the motion. Election of Councilman Davis nominated Councilman Viosmnan and the nomination President was seconded and Mr. Viessman was elected. PmIa ' m a Judge Wilson administered the Oath of Office to Roy Viessman t President Pro Tem. ! r The next item of business was the nomination of Councilman Council Rep. Woodman as the Council Representative to the Planning and Zoning to P&Z Commission. Councilman Halsey seconded the nomination and Mr. Woodman was elected. III Councilman Veile inquired about the election of the Council Council Rep. Representative to the Finance Committee. Mayor Hartsfield stated to Finance that in the past, this has been an appointed position. Last year Conmittee they elected a representative, but this is the first time they had done so. The Mayor further stated that he did not intend to make any changes, other than Mr. Barnicle replacing Mr. Huffman ,'e I as the alternate on the Transportation Commission. Councilman Nelson requested that Councilman Haake replace him as council the Representative for the Public Works Committee.
