Prayer offered by Mayor Hartsfield.
,Councilmen present : Borgmeyer, Brant, Crader, Gordon, Hequembourg,
Kiiegel, Prenger, Rackers and Whitecotton.
Councilmen absent : Robinson, absent with leave.
A quorum was declared present.
1The meeting was held in the West School Gymnasium and there were
some thirty-odd people there, in addition to the Council and City
Department Directors.
Mayor Hartsfield stated there had been a question raised - regarding
Tithe sale of liquor license - about the definition of "square block" "Square
las used in the liquor law. The City Attorney is out of town so the Block"
smatter was being held in abeyance until the regular Council meeting Definition
;!next Monday.
aThere was inquiry about traffic control at the corner of West Main Traffic
2iStreet and Dix Road - could an electric signal be installed - or West Main
that could be done to alleviate the congestion which seemed to occur and
fat peak hours. Mr. Mike Bates explained the situation and stated Dix Road
there had been several counts made in the past but no recent ones.
Mayor Hartsfield suggested another count be taken, before June 1st ,
while the school was still open , and also get estimates on the cost
iof signal light , and present such figures to the Committee and
Council .

The matter of parking in the uptown area was then brought up and Parking
Councilman Prenger explained the plan of the Parking and Traffic Lots
Authority to experiment, for aperiod of sixty days, with the over- Downtown
,selling of one of the uptown lots.
IMr. Roy IIogg, who resides at 1803 Ella Street , stated he had trouble
with drainage over since the street had been cut through and ho Ella

There was some discussion about the title of the new employee, I'
if it should be Comptroller, Accountant , or something else. The
Mayor suggested it could be changed and amended at the next meeting,'

Read first and second time by title and ordered distributed to
members of the Council . i;

The matter of Annexation was then discussed - which was the better ;;
part from which to annex, the sewer connections, etc. Councilman ;; Annexation
1 rader suggested the Mayor go ahead and appoint a Committee, as
previously discussed, from names presented by the Councilmen in
their Wards, and also include Mike Bates, Tom Benton and Dick
reston to serve with the Committee. ';

Annexation The matter of opposition to House Bill No. 1110, regarding annexa-
tion, was discussed, and how to get word to the legislators about
our feelings. Councilman Backers made the motion that the Council
authorize the Mayor to draft a letter, on behalf of the Council,
opposing the legislation as it is now worded. Motion seconded by
Councilman Hequembourg and passed.
Bus Councilman Crader presented a petition from residents of Brookdale,
Service Crestwood, Eastwood, Midway and Woodridge Streets, requesting bus
Petition service through their neighborhood.
The petition was referred to the Department of Public Works.
Adjournment There being no further business, meeting adjourned.
