Councilman Davis stated that, although he is sponsoring the bill, he would rather stipulate that this service take a "rest" for a few months until a new chief of police is found then resume its services by working with the new chief. The next item of business was New Business. Allen Garner was Reinsurance asked by Mayor Hartsfield to explain to the Council his findings on health plan reinsurance. He explained that a reinsurance agent has been discovered which would offer a partially self-funded, partially funded plan, at a certain amount per individual and a total amount for the City. He stated the present plan's • administrator discovered a different insurance company that can save the plan about $12, 000, and recommended a change in the 379• • • REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING Januar 6 1986 insurer in order to realize this savings . The change would not affect employee benefits, and the savings could then be • reintroduced into the plan as extended benefits or passed along as savings to the employees. On a motion by Councilman Davis, seconded by Councilman Nelson, the staff was directed to proceed with the suggested change of insurers . Switchboard Councilman Halsey asked that the switchboard staff be advised of Operators correct procedures for routing and answering calls coming in to the police department.
