Exciting News!
i
We are happy to inform you that the Senior Center is open again, and we are
excited to see you!
Due to summer pre-school activities in the Phillips building, gym access and parking
are extremely limited, therefore many of our programs will continue to be offered
via Zoom, including exercise classes, but you will find other activities offered
on -site in the afternoons. Look inside for more details. Programs are identified as
"on Zoom" or "at COA." If you have a specific question, give us a call and we will
let you know the status of a program. In addition, as new visitors join us, there may
be limitations imposed for group sizes causing us to rotate attendance. As a result,
we need you to call us and pre -register for any "at COA" program you plan to
attend. If you are not pre -registered, we may not have a space for you.
New Guidelines when coming to the Senior Center:
• Pre -register for any "at COA" program by calling (617) 972-6490.
• Scan your My Senior Center Card upon entering the building.
• Masks are highly recommended for all visitors regardless of vaccination status.
• Observe appropriate social -distancing.
• Hand sanitizer stations are available throughout the building.
• Kitchen is closed — No coffee or food provided, but you may bring your own.
• Dress accordingly — Windows will be open to maintain air circulation.
• Consider carpooling with a friend due to limited parking in the Phillips lot.
Thank you for your cooperation, and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Adult Hearing Loss is a part of life for one third of

hearing loss, and at a decreasing expense!
Topics in this and future meetings will include:
• How to Obtain Reliable, Unbiased Information
about Hearing Loss and Technology
• Non -technological strategies that enable more
effective, and less stressful, communication for
people with, and without the hearing loss.
• Hearing Losses are Unique and Individual: How
to Identify and Communicate Your Unique

AN 7950s w John Clark
itm Thursday, July22 a t 2 pm
rraes-+aPrwAo- 4MaC7. '7 a1'.'4d
We start by delving
into the back story of American folk, including the
blues and work song field recordings of John and
Alan Lomax and discovery of transplanted British
Isles ballads in the Piedmont region of our
country. Folk music's broader popularity officially
began with the early 50s commercial breakthrough.
Next came Harry Belafonte's Jamaican Farewell
and the calypso pop/folk trend that dominated for
the next few years. Then the Kingston Trio hit big
in 1958 with Tom Dooley. Burl Ives, Oscar Brand,
Jean Ritchie, Odetta, Theodore Bikel and Dave van
Ronk all played an important part of the story of
folk music in the 1950s.
