COMMISSION ORAL COMMUNICATIONS ADJOURNMENT Motion to adjourn to the regularly scheduled meeting on October 16, 1996 at 5:00 p m in the City Hall Council Chambers, 11330 Bullis Road, City of Lynwood, CA 90262 corresW11294 a CITY OF LYNWOOD COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 21, 1996 MEETING The Community Affairs Commission meeting of August 21, 1996 was called to order by Chairperson David Litsinger at 5 00 p.m. The pledge of Allegiance was led by Commissioner Bette Espeseth Roll Call of Commissioners present: Chairperson Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner David Litsinger Bette Espeseth Yolanda Bays Ann Fields Lucille Walker Barbara Newton Lorna Hawkins - absent Staff present Mr Ralph Davis Mr Davis certified the posting of the agenda Commissioner Espeseth motioned to approve the minutes of the July 17, 1996 meeting. Commissioner Newton seconded the motion INFORMATION ITEMS Mr. Ralph Davis reported that at the City Council meeting of July 15, 1996, Council approved the merger between U.S. West and Continental Cable. The name for the company will be U S. West and there will be no downsizing within the company This merger will be good for the City The Block Watch Program helped organize the non - profit organization called Lynwood Community Partnership SCHEDULED MATTERS Mr. Davis reported on the HRMAC meeting held on August 8, 1996. Councilman Zack from Los Angeles County was present at the meeting CAHRO will be hosting a summit at the Los Angeles Convention Center from September 25, 1996 through September 27, 1996. Mr. Davis invited all of the Commissioners to attend the summit. Mr Davis reported on the Community 10,000 Program The program is will be held on September 27, 1996 in front of City Hall There will be marrow testing provided by the Red Cross, a press conference, a ribbon cutting ceremony, a petting zoo, and a special presentation featuring a performance by Safe Kids Information Program (S K.I.P.) 0 COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 21, 1996 MEETING PAGE 2 Mr Davis distributed an article regarding Campaign Race Baiting He also presented to the Commission a Resolution that will prevent using race as a divisive tool of political campaigning The Commission motioned to recommend the Resolution be presented to Council for further review. Commissioner Espeseth motioned to approve the Resolution and Commissioner Fields seconded the motion The Commission approves the Resolution PUBLIC ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None COMMISSION ORALS Commissioner Fields reported that the City of Lynwood now has a chapter of the AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) The chapter meets on the second Thursday of the month at Bateman Hall. The Lynwood Chapter is called Y Step #5161. Commissioner Walker stated that she is happy to be back. Commissioner Espeseth reported that she attended the raffle at Superior Super Warehouse. She also attended the July 20, 1996 event and had a wonderful time Commissioner Bays reported on the July 20, 1996 event. She stated that she enjoyed it very much Chairperson Litsinger reported on the construction of the new stores on Atlantic He also reported that his church will be having a reunion on September 14, 1996. The meeting was adjourned at 6 00 p.m. by Chairperson David Litsinger The next regularly scheduled meeting will be on Wednesday, September 12, 1996 at 5 00 p m in the City Hall Council Chambers
