COMMISSION ORAL COMMUNICATIONS ADJOURNMENT Motion to adjourn to the regularly scheduled meeting on August 21, 1996 at 5:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, 11330 Bullis Road, City of Lynwood, CA 90262. wrres \sf11294.a CITY OF LYNWOOD COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE JUNE 19, 1996 MEETING The Community Affairs Commission meeting of June 19, 1996 was called to order by Chairperson David Litsinger at 5:02 p.m. The pledge of Allegiance was led by Commissioner Bette Espeseth. Roll Call of Commissioners present: Chairperson Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner ?avid Litsinger Bette Espeseth Yolanda Bays - absent Ann Fields Lucille Walker Barbara Newton - absent Lorna Hawkins Staff present: Mr. Ralph Davis Mr. Davis certified the posting of the agenda. The minutes of the May 15, 1996 meeting were tabled until the next meeting. INFORMATION ITEMS Mr. Ralph Davis reported on a special meeting held by the City Council. At the Council meeting a breakfast and Punch program for the youth was approved. Ralph also mentioned that Denny's was interested in building a restaurant in the City of Lynwood. Mr. Davis mentioned that the City Manager received a letter from the Oldtimers Foundation stating that as of July 1, 1996 they would no longer house their program in the Lynwood area. The reason for this is because they are downsizing their program. The City of Lynwood will give $14,000.00 to the program in order for it to remain open in the City. Mr. Davis reported on the Block Watch Program and how they are involved with the Sheriff's Department Community Policing Program. SCHEDULED MATTERS Mr. Davis reported on the upcoming programs that the City will be hosting. The Rotary Club of Lynwood held their elections and nominated City Clerk, Andrea Hooper as their first woman President. The Juneteenth Celebration was held on Saturday, June 15, 1996. The event consisted of live entertainment, vendors booths, and a variety of games for all the youth in attendance. Everyone enjoyed the program. 0 COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE JUNE 19, 1996 MEETING PAGE 2 Dog vaccinations and rabie shots will be given today at Mervyn M. Dymally Park at 7:00 P.M. The City of Lynwood will be celebrating its July 4th /Unity Festival on Thursday, July 4, 1996 at Mervyn M. Dymally Congressional Park from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The event will feature live entertainment such as; Rose Royce, Hawaiian Review, Chineese Review and much more. The event will be held on Cesar Chavez Lane between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Bullis Road. To end this spectacular event there will be a fireworks display at dusk. On Saturday, July 20, 1996 the City of Lynwood will be celebrating its 75th Anniversary. There will be a Candle Run, a cake cutting ceremony, awards will be handed out to many volunteers, and there will be a Time Capsule Burial. The event is going to be held on Bullis Road and will begin at approximately 2:00 p.m. On Thursday, July 18, 1996 the Senior Citizens Program will be hosting an Open House /Indoor Luncheon to pay tribute to the City of Lynwood's Diamond Jubilee. The event will be held at Bateman Hall from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. PUBLIC ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None COMMISSION ORALS Commissioner Fields passed around an article of the new Compton College President. She asked for everyone to please help support the City's 75th Anniversary by wearing one of the polo shirts that the City is selling. Commissioner Walker reported that the Lynwood Library is doing well and at the moment they have story tellers and musicians coming to entertain the children. Commissioner Hawkins reported on the Drive -by Agony Silent March that will be held. She stated that family members of people who were murdered will bring shoes of that particular person and put them on display and send them to Washington D.C. Commissioner Espeseth made a complain about the recycling bin located at Frontier Market. She asked Ralph if it could be removed. The meeting was adjourned at 5:54 p.m. by Chairperson David Litsinger. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be on Wednesday, July 17, 1996 at 5:00 p.m.
