COMMISSION ORAL COMMUNICATIONS ADJOURNMENT Motion to adjourn to the regularly scheduled meeting on June 19, 1996 at 5 00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, 11330 Bullis Road, City of Lynwood, CA 90262. corres \sf11294.a 0 CITY OF LYNWOOD COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE APRIL 17, 1996 MEETING The Community Affairs Commission meeting of April 17, 1996 was called to order by Chairperson David Litsinger at 5:05 p m. The pledge of Allegiance was led by Commissioner Yolanda Bays. Roll Call of Commissioners present: Chairperson Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner David Litsinger Bette Espeseth - absent Yolanda Bays Ann Fields Lucille Walker Barbara Newton Lorna Hawkins - excused absence Staff present: Mr Ralph Davis Mr. Davis certified the posting of the agenda. Chairperson David Litsinger motioned to approve the minutes of the March 20, 1996 meeting. Commissioner Fields seconded the motion The Commission agrees and the minutes were so ordered. INFORMATION ITEMS Mr Ralph Davis stated that there was no City Council meeting because three Council Members were absent There will be a Special Council meeting on Saturday, April 20, 1996 at 5:30 p m A Proclamation was presented to the City Council stating that the month of April is Earthquake Preparedness Month. On Saturday, April 20, 1996 there will be an Earthquake Preparedness class held at the Century Sheriff Station beginning at 11:00 a m Mr Davis reported on the various activities that are taking place in the City. On Saturday, April 6, 1996 the Annual Easter Egg Hunt was held. There were approximately four - hundred (400) children in attendance. The event was enjoyed by everyone. An Easter Sunrise Service was Held on Sunday, April 7, 1996 sponsored by the Ministerial Association The Annual Lynwood All City Track Meet was held on Saturday, April 13, 1996. All nine (9) elementary schools in Lynwood participated, Hosler Jr High School also participated in this event. The winners of the Lynwood All City Track Meet will advance to the SEMAA Track Meet which will be held on May 11, 1996. The Cinco de Mayo Program will be held on Saturday, May 4, 1996 at i • COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 17, 1996 MEETING PAGE 2 the reservoir located in Mervyn M Dymally Park beginning at 12 00 noon and ending at 6 00 p.m. A coloring book has been created to distribute to the elementary schools in Lynwood There will be various forms of entertainment Vendors will be selling food, drinks, and various items The Basketball Banquet will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 1996 at Bateman Hall. The Peace March sponsored by Drive -By Agony will be held on Saturday, April 20, 1996 Everyone will meet at Bateman Hall at 10:30 a.m and from there drive to Downtown L A. at 12 00 noon. The Closing Ceremonies for the Soccer Program will be held on Saturday, April 20, 1996 There will be a mini press conference on the Five City Torch Relay Tuesday, April 23, 1996 at 6:00 p m. in the City Council Chambers SCHEDULED MATTERS Mr. Davis reported on the HRMAC meeting he attended on Thursday, April 11, 1996. Mr Davis stated that he will be making packages for the Community Affairs Commissioners regarding HRMAC He also stated that the purpo e for HRMAC is for Cities to help one another find solutions toOI s t.tul' o— �L¢.ba H yrrui , The Commission agreed that Commissioner Bays will be the alternative person to attend the HRMAC meetings. The next HRMAC meeting will be held on Thursday, May 16, 1996 at the Museum of Tolerance in the City of Pasadena. The City Council will hold a Special Meeting to discuss the budget on Saturday, April 20, 1996 at 5 30 p m Mr Davis reminded the Commissioners that they must end the regular Community Affairs Commission in order to meet as the Business Improvement District PUBLIC ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 17, 1996 MEETING PAGE 3 COMMISSION ORALS Commissioner Bays informed everyone that Track Z is out in April Commissioner Walker announced that Ruth Morse is the new Librarian at the Lynwood Library Commissioner Fields informed everyone that the new President of Compton College is Ulysses Williams. Ms Fields also informed the Commissioners on a survey from Los Angeles County was handed out to fifteen (15) senior citizens in Lynwood This survey is used to help address the needs of senior citizens Chairperson Litsinger informed everyone that the Loving Cup was awarded to Washington Elementary School He also informed everyone that the Youth Merit Awards will be held on June 3, 1996 The cost for this event is $10.00 per person The meeting was adjourned at 6 00 p.m. by Chairperson David Litsinger. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be on Wednesday, May 15, 1996 at 5 00 p m
