COMMISSION ORAL COMMUNICATIONS ADJOURNMENT Motion to adjourn to the regularly scheduled meeting on May 15, 1996 at 5:00 p.m in the City Hall Council Chambers, 11330 Bullis Road, City of Lynwood, CA 90262 carres \sf11294 a CITY OF LYNWOOD COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE MARCH 20, 1996 MEETING The Community Affairs Commission meeting of March 20, 1996 was called to order by Chairperson David Litsinger at 5:00 p.m. The pledge of Allegiance was led by Commissioner Bette Espeseth Roll Call of Commissioners present Chairperson Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner David Litsinger Bette Espeseth Barbara Newton Yolanda Bays Lucille Walker Ann Fields Lorna Hawkins Staff present: Mr. Ralph Davis Mr. Ralph Davis certified the posting of the agenda Commissioners Espeseth motioned to approve the minutes of the March 20, 1996 meeting. Commissioner Newton seconded the motion. The Commission agrees and the minutes were so ordered INFORMATION ITEMS The Block Watch Captains meeting was held on February 27, 1996. They are currently working on their Earthquake Preparedness Program. Many Block Watch Captains are concerned at the fact that there are approximately 60 to 70 Block Watch Captains yet only 25 usually attend the meetings. The Block Watch Captains would like for all Captains to participate and become active members. Mr Ralph Davis reported that Western Waste and USA Waste will be merging together in order to provide better services to their customers. Mr. Ralph Davis stated that the Unity Festival proposal was approved by the City Council The Lynwood City Council also approved the Olympic Torch Relay Ceremony program. The Ceremony will be held on April 27, 1996 at the Los Angeles Coliseum There will be twelve Lynwood.residents running in the relay The Easter Egg Hunt is scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 6, 1996 at 10:00 a.m in Mervyn M Dymally Congressional Park. Free candy will be distributed to all the children. The Rotary Club is sponsoring this event 0 9 COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE MARCH 20, 1996 MEETING The Annual Mr. and Mrs Lynwood Competition will be held on March 30, 1996 at Bateman Hall. This competition is sponsored annually by the Lynwood Chamber of Commerce Baseball Opening Day will be held on March 30, 1996. The program will begin at 10:00 a.m There are approximately 400 - 500 participants in the Baseball program. The Lynwood All City Track Meet will be held on Saturday, April 13, 1996 at Lynwood High School. The track meet is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a m. On Saturday, April 20, 1996 the 4th Annual Peace March will be held. Drive -By Agony sponsors this event in order promote peace in the communities and to stop gang violence A Doctor's Day dinner will be held on March 22, 1996 The City Council will present a Humanitarian award in honor of Dr. Ross Miller. SCHEDULED MATTERS Ms. Frankie Maryland made a presentation on HRMAC She stated that she is very excited to be able to work with the City of Lynwood. She explained to the commission that her purpose is to get the surrounding cities to help one another. A consortium is held the second Thursday of each month A staff member and a Commissioner should be present at all the meetings. Ms. Maryland's job is to help the city form a plan that would prevent inter -group tension in the city PUBLIC ORALS NONE COMMISSION ORALS Commissioner Walker attended the Unity Dinner. She stated that it was very entertaining and had a great time at the dinner Commissioner Newton also attended the Unity Dinner and enjoyed it very much. Commissioner Hawkins talked about the Peace March which will be held on April 20, 1996. She would really like for everyone to participate. The Peace March will begin in Lynwood and end on Olvera Street 0 0 COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION 'MINUTES OF THE MARCH 20, 1996 MEETING Commissioner Espeseth stated that Frontier Market is changing its name to Superior Market Chairperson Litsinger reported that the Loving Cup will be presented on Tuesday to the winner of the Mathathon Competition The meeting was adjourned at 6 10 p m by Chairperson David Litsinger
