PUBLIC ORAL COMMUNICATIONS V COMMISSION ORAL COMMUNICATIONS ADJOURNMENT Motion to adjourn to the regularly scheduled meeting on March 20, 1996 at 5:00 p m in the City Hall Council Chambers, 11330 Bullis Road, City of Lynwood, CA 90262 i corres \s£11294 a CITY OF LYNWOOD COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 17, 1996 MEETING The Community Affairs Commission meeting of January 17, 1996 was called to order by Chairperson David Litsinger at 5:10 p.m. The pledge of Allegiance was led by Commissioner Bette Espeseth Roll Call of Commissioners present: Chairperson Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner David Litsinger Bette Espeseth Yolanda Bays Ann Fields Lucille Walker Barbara Newton Lorna Hawkins Staff present Mr. Ralph Davis Mr. Davis certified the posting of the agenda. Commissioner Espeseth motioned to approve the minutes of the December 20, 1995 meeting. Commissioner Newton - seconded the motion. The Commission agrees and the minutes were so ordered INFORMATION ITEMS Mr. Ralph Davis reminded the Commissioners that elections for Chairperson and Vice Chairperson need to be taken care of. Mr. Davis opened the nominations for Chairperson Commissioner Espeseth nominated Commissioner David Litsinger and Commissioner Ann Fields seconded the nomination All Commissioners were in favor Mr Ralph Davis opened the nominations for Vice Chairperson. Commissioner Fields nominated Commissioner Newton Commissioner Walker seconded the nomination All Commissioners were in favor. At the last City Council meeting a number of people complained that there are several Commissioners that serve on two (2) Commissions. Therefore, the City Council has decided to talk individually to Commissioners who serve on two (2) Commissions and ask them to choose one of the two Commissions that they are presently serving. Mr. Davis also reported that Councilman Robert Henning was chosen to be in charge of the All- American City Project Mayor Paul H. Richards has created a Family Fun Book in honor of- Martin Luther King Jr's birthday. Books have been distributed to the nine elementary schools in Lynwood. COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 17, 1996 MEETING PAGE 2 Mr Davis reported that the City of Lynwood has adopted the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Administrative Policy. The City employees who will be tested for alcohol or substance abuse are those who drive City vehicles and Lifeguards. Mr. Davis advised the Commissioners that he would be attending the CPRS Workshop in San Diego from February 8 through February 11, 1996 SCHEDULED MATTERS The City of Lynwood is preparing for its 75th Anniversary Celebration. The City is currently printing stories of the City's history in the Lynwood Journal. The Chamber of Commerce is also contributing to the celebration by searching for historical events and historical pictures. The Community Health and Resources Day will be held on Thursday, January 25, 1996 at Bateman Hall from 10 00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This program will offer various health services to the residents of Lynwood Mammograms will also be done on this day (must have prior approval) In honor of Black History Month there will be a Karaoke Contest at Bateman Hall on Friday, February 23, 1996 beginning at 6:30 p.m on Sunday, February 25, 1996 a Gospel Fest will be held at Bateman Hall in honor of Cassietta George The Gospel Fest will be between 3 00 p.m and 7 :00 p.m. PUBLIC ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None COMMISSION ORALS Commissioner Espeseth reported that there is a pole knocked down by her house. This pole is in a dangerous position and someone can get hurt. Commissioner Bays reported that there is apparently another man exposing himself to the children near the school she works at. The Sheriff's Department has already been informed Commissioner Bays also asked where could letters be sent if anyone is having problems with a local business. She was informed that she may call the Chamber of Commerce and they would gladly be able to help her. COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 17, 1996 MEETING PAGE 3 Commissioner Walker reported that Norma Montero the Manager of the Lynwood Library has been given a promotion and will be transferred to the City of Huntington Park. Everyone at the library is going to miss her because she did an outstanding job as Manager Commissioner Fields passed out fliers regarding a Martin Luther King Jr Celebration at Compton College. Before the meeting adjourned Mr. Ralph Davis reported that on Friday, January 19, 1996 there will be another rally to protest the closing of the EDD Office in Compton The meeting was adjourned at 5:55 p m by Chairperson David Litsinger The next regularly scheduled meeting will be on Wednesday, February 21, 1996 at 5 00 p.m.
