Fundraising New Program Ideas Public Orals Staff Orals Commission Orals Adjournment to April 3, 1996 • 0 Commission Minutes For February 7, 1996 The City of Lynwood Youth Commission met in a special session at 6:05 p m. at the Lynwood Community Transit Center, located at 3798 Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Lynwood. Chairperson Zavala presided ROLL CALL Commissioners Zavala, Sandoval, Acosta, Espinoza, McZeal, G. Hardin, Nava and Hampton answered roll call Commissioners Gregory, M Hardin, Wroten did not answer roll call CERTIFICATION OF THE POSTING OF THE AGENDA Mark Flores certified the posting of the agenda. APPROVAL OF THE PAST MINUTES Approval of Minutes of the January 8, 1996 meeting was moved to be approved at the March meeting PROGRAM REPORTS Recreation and Community Services Mark Flores reported that the Natatorium was to open on March 11, 1996. Black History Month Activities were presented including the Karaoke contest at Batemen Hall to be held on February 23, 1996. Baseball sign ups were to continue throughout the month Youth Council /Teen Center It was reported that the Teen Center was scheduled to begin reconstruction activities including moving its programming to different sites. GENERAL REPORTS Cable Show Training- the schedule for commencement of the cable class has been post -poned until further notice. Supplies were to be arranged by Mr. Flores Torch Relay- A car wash fundraiser was scheduled to be held on February 24, and March 2 NEW PROGRAM IDEAS Consideration of Boys and Girls Club in Lynwood was agreed to be a duplication of programming Any special programs by the Club could be proposed and sponsored by the city. The Youth Yellow Pages was to be discussed by Commissioner Espinoza and St. Francis Hospital. ® 0 Public Orals There were no new public orals STAFF ORALS There were no staff orals COMMISSION ORALS Commissioner Sandoval Apologized for missing the sub - committee meeting and showed his enthusiasm for the scheduled Torch Relay car wash Commissioner Acosta apologized for missing the sub - committee meeting Commissioner Nava apologized for missing last months meeting. ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Acosta moved that the meeting be adjourned to the next regularly scheduled Youth Commission Meeting and seconded by Commissioner Hampton All in favor Meeting adjourned at 6:48 p.m. Commission Minutes For January 10, 1996 The City of Lynwood Youth Commission met in a special session at 6:08 p.m at the Lynwood Community Transit Center, located at 3798 Martin Luther King, Jr Boulevard, Lynwood Chairperson Zavala presided ROLL CALL Commissioners Zavaia, Sandoval, Acosta, Espinoza, McZeal, G Hardin, and Hampton answered roll call. Commissioners Gregory, M. Hardin, Nava, Wroten did not answer roll call CERTIFICATION OF THE POSTING OF THE AGENDA Jim Given, Project Manager, certified the posting of the agenda APPROVAL OF THE PAST MINUTES Approval of Minutes of the January 10, 1995 meeting was motioned to be approved by Commissioner Acosta and seconded by Commissioner McZeal with correction of the word "XMAS ". PROGRAM REPORTS Recreation and Community Services Jim Given, Project Manager discussed the success of Community Services Day and thanked the Commission for its involvement. He also discussed the beginning of the City Basketball season and the start of baseball sign -ups Youth Council /Teen Center It was reported that the Teen Center was scheduling a trip to a Lakers game and Disneyland in January as well as flag football, Day Camp involvement and continuing Teen Center programs GENERAL REPORTS It was announced that the cable workshop would begin at the end of January 1996 and that the Commission would be represented. NEW PROGRAM IDEAS Commissioner Espinoza Presented his research into the possibility of a Boys and Girls Club in Lynwood. No action by the Department was taken due to the fact of a very busy December schedule. A sub - committee meeting was established on January 12 to discuss the Commission's participation in the Five City Torch Relay. Commissioners Acosta, Sandoval and Espinoza were selected to represent the Commission Public Orals There were no new public orals STAFF ORALS Ralph Davis, Director expressed his appreciation for the Commission's work and hoped that the Commission would improve on attendance challenges COMMISSION ORALS Commissioner Hardin apologized for being late. Commissioner McZeal apologized for arriving late Commissioner Sandoval thanked the Commission for participating in Community Services Day. He also wished everyone a happy new year. Commissioner Zavala thanked the Commission for participating in Community Services Day ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Espinoza moved that the meeting be adjourned to the next regularly scheduled Youth Commission Meeting and seconded by Commissioner Acosta.
