Lynwood Women's Commission Voting Issue Staff liaison Carol de Jesus suggested for the commission to take up a project relative to issues discussed at the NACW convention, e.g., encouraging Women to Vote. Commissioner Culp added that there are many young women who are not registered voters. Many of these young ladies are still in High School. Commissioner Dr. Jackson agreed with commissioner Culp and she stated that there were many issues that effect women. She added that the only way something would get done was by getting all these young ladies to vote. She commented that the High School could give the commission a list of names of those who can or will soon be able to vote. Commissioner Culp stated that the process would be going through the Superintendent, and ask if the commission can either put a table with registration forms during lunch time, and have someone talk to the young women about the importance of voting. If this venture turns out to be a success this project could be utilized in all the L.A. County Schools. Councilman Heine commented that though it is a good project, it can turn out to be politically oriented and thus create a conflict. Commissioner Culp stated that just having a news announcement would perhaps be sufficient. She added that maybe the commission can use The Lynwood N' Perspective. It could read: "IF YOU ARE 18 SIGN UP ". Staff liaison de Jesus commented that at this point it is best that the commission support the NACW through the media publicity of Women Vote project. 0 0 B.
