ADJOURNMENT A RE ,E CITY CLERKS OFFICE IVED 1 996 CITY VF LYNWOOU AT CITY HALL ;JUN Q 6 1996 0 0 The regular meeting of the Women's Commission of the City of Lynwood California was held on Tuesday May 14, 1996 at 3:00 p m., in the Conference room of the Lynwood City Hall. The Agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act.. Members in attendance Dr Betty Jackson Mary Sue Lewis Verna Culp Ethel Pacheco Della Mazziotti Also present were Councilman Louis Heine Barbara Anthony, friend of the LWC Carol de Jesus, staff liaison Sandra Morales, minute clerk I. ADMINISTRATIVE ITEMS A. Meeting was called to order by Chair Mary Sue Lewis. Minutes of previous meeting were approved with necessary corrections. II. DISCUSSION ITEMS A. Senior Citizen Project a. Chairperson Mary Sue Lewis commented that the commission needs to come up with ideas relative to resources for the Thanksgiving /Christmas event. Commissioner Della Mazziotti suggested that at these senior citizen homes not only are there but some are convalescent patients, thus, so the commission shouldn't focus on the seniors only, but should involve convalescents also b Chairperson Mary Sue Lewis suggested that the commission should have a more organized event; in that way the commission will have a better profit. c. Fundraising ideas: 1 Commissioner Mazziotti suggested for the commission to be an audience at a T V show, these shows usually pay each person in the audience. E 0 2. Chair Mary Sue Lewis proposed to have a 4th of July fireworks booth. Commissioner Culp added that for a fireworks booth the commission needed to have started the paper work in January Commissioner Pacheco added that the commission can still get a booth and sell hot -dogs, nachos, Ice cream, etc. 3 Commissioner Dr Jackson suggested that a pageant for Senior Citizens be held, she said she participated a similar pageant in the City of Compton and it was very successful. She added that this event is very profitable for the reason that you sell tickets to all family members and friends that would like to see their mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, etc. Phyllis, who deals with the Senior Citizens in Lynwood, and Wanda from Supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite Burke's office can help the commission in putting the event together The Senior Citizens participating would be from Lynwood, but the commission can invite Senior Citizens from surrounding cities Commissioner Marie Sue Lewis suggested for the Master Ceremonies to be Pat Harvey from Channel 9 The Commission agreed with Dr Jackson's idea and decided that she should Co -Chair with Councilman Heine Barbara Anthony, Friend of the commission, will also be assisting. Chairperson Mary Sue Lewis suggested for Commissioner Dr Jackson to give assignments to the rest of the commission. The commission also decided to have 25 contestants. The commission agreed to have this event held at Bateman Hall. This item was tabled for the next Lynwood Women's Commission meeting to be held June 11, 1996. There being no further business the commission adjourned at 4 10 p m
