The regular meeting of the Women's Commission of the City of Lynwood,
California was held on Tuesday April 9, 1996 at 3:00 p.m., in the Conference room
of the Lynwood City Hall. The Agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the
Brown Act.
Members in attendance-

Also present were:
Councilman Louis Heine
Elizabeth Dixon, friend of the LWC
Barbara Anthony, friend of the LWC
Carol de Jesus, staff liaison
Sandra Morales, minute clerk
I. ADMINISTRATIVE ITEMS
A. Meeting was called to order by Chair Mary Sue Lewis. Minutes of previous
meeting were approved with necessary corrections.
II. DISCUSSION ITEMS
A. Evaluation of The Women's History Month:
a. Commissioner Verna Culp commented that the event was nice but there is a
need to be a better system in the control of food distribution.
Commissioner Ethel Pacheco added that it might be a good idea to put
stickers that specify that the person has already paid.
b. A financial report was presented by Staff Liaison Carol de Jesus,
collected $881.27, expenditures: $945.59, total: $64.32
B. Mother's Day Event
a. Commissioner Verna Culp suggested to adopt May 18th as Mother's Day
Chair Mary Sue Lewis expressed that the event should be
postponed /cancel led.
C. NACW Convention
a. Commissioner Verna Culp sees the need of sending a representative to the
NACW convention, and she suggested that the Chairperson Mary Sue Lewis
represent the Commission at the Convention. At the same time, she
indicated there should be more than one representative.

The Commission suggested that Chairperson Mary Sue Lewis represent the
Commission at the Convention.
Motion was made, seconded and carried to approve the attendance of
Chairperson Mary Sue Lewis at the NACW convention.
D. Christmas /Thanksgiving Event
Councilman Heine suggested that there are other clubs and organization in
the city that have bingo nights. He indicated that the Commission should
find out what other commissions are planning for said events so there is no
duplicationof activities.
Chair Mary Sue Lewis discussed the need to plan ahead in order to have a
great Christmas /Thanksgiving event for the Children and Women Center
located at Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. It is important that funds should be
raised. Barbara Anthony, Friend of the Commission said that having a
"Bingo Night" event could help raise funds for the Christmas event.
Carol de Jesus, Staff Liaison said that Family Savings bank might help
sponsor the food for the fundraiser, and staff could do a fashion show.
Councilman Heine indicated that the Family Savings might like to do their
own functions for the center.
There being no further business the commission adjourned at 4:05 p.m.
