ADJOURNMENT The regular meeting of the Women's Commisssion of the City of Lynwood, California was held on Tuesday, January 9, 1995 at 3:00 p.m., in the Conference room of the Lynwood City Hall. The Agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act. Members In attendance: Verna Culp Mary Sue Lewis Della Mazziotti Ethel Pacheco Dr. Betty Jackson Also present are: Councilman Louis Heine Carol de Jesus, staff liaison Gina Zuno, outgoing minutes clerk Sandra Morales, incoming minutes clerk I. ADMINISTRATIVE ITEMS A. Meeting was called to order by Chair Mary Sue Lewis. Minutes of previous meeting was approved as read. 11. DISCUSSION ITEMS A. Verna Culp gave a brief report on the "Gifts of Love" event sponsored by the Women's Commission held last Christmas at the Women and Children Center. She commented that the event was very lovely and successful. Ms. Culp thanked everyone for their attendance and participation. B. Chair Mary Sue Lewis made a motion to adopt the Christmas event held at the Women and Children Center as an annual affair for the Women's Commission. Ethel Pacheco seconded, all in favor. Mary Sue Lewis indicated that this new year, the commission should try to raise funds at an early stage to make future events possible. She also said that the Commission should start organizing the annual christmas event in October. Verna suggested that for a more successful event, the commission should start raising funds in June. C. Mary Sue Lewis said that the Commission needs more publicity to let the women In the community made aware of the existence of a Women's Commission that supports them. D. REPORT ON THE NACWA CONFERENCE IN FLORIDA by Commissioner Jackson. Ill. NEW BUSINESS A. Ideas were presented for future events: 1. Della Mazziotti suggested that for Mother's Day the Commission should take a carnation to each mother at the Women and Children Center. 2. Mary Sue Lewis suggested a "Senior Citizen Day ". The Lynwood Women's Commission would on that day target a specific Senior Citizen home and take them gifts and maybe do some type of entertainment. The commission decided this event to be held on May 9, 1996. 3. Ethel Pacheco suggested to give gifts to Senior Citizens on their birthdays. 4. Della Mazziotti Indicated that Phyllis Cooper is a contact person for a senior citizen group in the City of Lynwood. 5. Anne Fields, friend of the Commission informed the commissioners that they can approach Wonda Johnson, (deputy of Supervisor Wonne Burke, Senior Citizens Affairs), for any assistance regarding senior citizens' needs. 6. Anne Fields invited the commission to participate in the Health Awareness and Community Resources Day to be held February 25, 1996. There being no further business commission adjourned at 4:20p.m.
