Roll Call of Commissioners: Chairperson Martini - Present Commissioner Mendoza - Present Commissioner Espeseth - Present Commissioner Lara - Absent Commissioner Reed - Present 5. Mr Ralph Davis, Director of the Recreation and Community Services Department certified the posting of the agenda by the City Clerk 6 Chairperson Martini called for review and approval of the minutes for the Recreation and Parks Commission meeting held on September 24, 1996 Commissioner Espeseth motioned to approve the minutes, Commissioner Mendoza seconded the motion, all were in agreement and the motion was passed 7 CORRESPONDENCE A The Commission unanimously approved the fee waiver request of the L.A County Office of Education to host a Financial Services Workshop on December 1, 1996 from 8 00 a.m to 12 00 noon B. The Commission unanimously approved the fee waiver request of the Lynwood Women's Club for the use of Bateman Hall to host their annual Modes N Mums Fashion Show /Luncheon on November 20, 1996. 8. News Releases - Mailed on Current Basis C Personnel Report - None October 22, 1996 Page 2 9 CURRENT PROGRAM REPORT Mr Davis introduced Ms Dorothy Siddell to the Commission in her new capacity as Recreation Superintendent She will handle day -to -day operations. The Natatorium will close for repairs in November Mr John Oskoui, Director of Public Works is out ill and unable to present his report on renovations to the Natatorium Plans for Halloween include the annual S.K I.P. safety program, Halloween Museum and carnival games Boy and Girl Scout Programs are doing very well throughout the City of Lynwood. Upcoming Senior trips include: The Glory of Easter Flu shots are being offered free of charge on Wednesday, November 6, 1996, starting at 11:00 a m. by Downey Community Hospital Line dancing class beginning in November at the Community /Transit Center Get out and vote - polling places will be available here in Lynwood at the Community /Transit Center and at Hosler. The City of Lynwood Recreation and Community Services Department Senior Citizens Division is in urgent need for six (6) seniors to sign up for the Hearst Castle trip by Wednesday; November 6, 1996. (310) 603 -0220, Ext. 414 IMMEDIATE RELEASE RECORDS FALL AS LYNWOOD MARLIN SWIMMERS EXCEL The South Central Swim League began its six -month season with the first of six league swim meets on Saturday, October 19, 1996. Conducted at Compton College, this meet was attended by over 200 competitors, from seven various swim clubs. The City of Lynwood was represented by the swimmers of the Marlin Aquatic Club. The Marlin Aquatic Club consists of forty swimmers; thirty -two Lynwood swimmers attended these competitions. The Marlin Aquatic Club is sponsored by the City of Lynwood Recreation and Community Services Department. League records were broken in numerous events. Leading the path of record breaking swims were Lynwood swimmers Michelle Mondolo with a 100 -yard Backstroke (1 16.2) and Jose Pacheco with a 50 -yard Breastroke (32.4). In addition to his record Breastroke swim, Jose Pacheco also bettered the previous 100 -yard Butterfly record and placed second in the finals with a time of 1.06.2. The City wide contest is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, November 13, 1996, at 6:00 p.m., at the Lynwood Community Transit Center Gymnasium located at 3798 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard here in Lynwood. The Contest is made possible through the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation and the Pepsi Cola Company This year boys and girls born between the years of 1981 and 1988 are eligible to participate. The contest tests a child's speed, dribbling, shooting, and rebounding skills. There are eight categories of competition in four separate age groups.
