The Recreation and Parks Commission meeting of June 25, 1996 was
called to order at 6:05 by Chairperson Martini. The Invocation was
led by Commissioner Lara and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited
by Commissioner Mendoza.

Department certified the posting of the agenda by the City Clerk
Chairperson Martini called for review and approval on the minutes
for the Recreation and Parks Commission meeting held on May 28,
1996. Commissioner Espeseth motioned to approve the minutes,
Commissioner Mendoza seconded the motion, all were in agreement and
the motion was passed

UPDATE OF SENIOR CITIZENS MEALS PROGRAM
Commissioner Espeseth expressed her pleasure that the City will
provide $1500 in funds to keep the Senior Meal Program operational,
as it is vital to the health and well being of the senior citizens
in and around Lynwood. She feels all senior citizens should pay
$1 50 per meal

over worsening graffiti problems. He
feels the problem was under better control

Juneteenth program was very rewarding, the

Suggested that all Recreation
Commissioners should receive CPRS
magazine. Reported that a teacher from
Washington School has commented to him
that Ham Park is always trashy and dirty.

roster with current phone numbers.
Bateman Hall rental rates should be
reevaluated as the City of Lynwood charges
considerably less than all other cities

Suggested that wall murals should be
painted to help combat graffiti;
additional police patrol is needed in Los
Amigos Park to curtail the sale of drugs.

The Senior Citizens Program will be taking a trip to Laughlin,
Nevada from Sunday, July 28, 1996 to Tuesday, July 30, 1996. The
cost for the trip is $59.00 (CASH ONLY) per person based on a
double occupancy or $79.00 (CASH ONLY) per person based on a single
occupancy. We will be staying at the Flamingo Hilton Hotel. You'll
spend three fun - filled days along the banks of the Colorado River
which features exciting full casinos, restaurants and luxurious
rooms.
Registration for this trip is currently being taken at the
Community /Transit Center located at 3798 Martin Luther King Jr.
Boulevard in Lynwood and will end on Monday, July 15, 1996.
Registration hours are 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m., 12:00 noon - 2:00

SUMMER BASKETBALL REGISTRATION
Registration is now underway for boys and girls ages 10 through 16
with remaining high school eligibility. Registration will be taken
at the Lynwood Community /Transit Center located at 3798 Martin
Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Lynwood from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.,
12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.,Monday through
Thursday until Wednesday, July 3, 1996.
A $100.00 registration fee may be paid in cash, money order or
• cashiers check and must be accompanied by proof of age, such as
• birth certificate, baptismal certificate, school letter and /or
an alien registration card. The cost includes insurance and
awards for the first place teams.

"GET OUT OF DEBT"
"Get out of Debt" is an innovative new game show hosted by Wink
Martindale host of Tic -Tac -Dough and Trivial Pursuit, that airs
Monday through Friday at 6:30 p.m. on Lifetime Television.
The City of Lynwood's Senior Citizens Program is going to be a part
of the audience on Friday, June 28, 1996. The bus will leave the
Community /Transit Center located at 3798 Martin Luther King Jr.
Boulevard in Lynwood at 9:30 a.m. and return at approximately 2:30
p.m.
As an audience participant you will have the opportunity to have
one of your bills paid. Therefore, bring a friend and a bill and
lets have some fun. Refreshments will be served on board the bus.
Registration is currently being taken and will end on Tuesday, June
25 1996. The cost for the trip is $2.00. Registration hours are
7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. -2:00 p.m., 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

SCAVENGER HUNT
The Senior Citizens Program will be attending a trip to beautiful
San Diego on Friday, July 12, 1996 from 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The trip includes an old- fashioned "scavenger hunt" through San
Diego's Inland Empire. A local guide will take us on our hunt from
beer to nuts. The hunt will begin in Fallbrook at Cooper's Nut
House which has more than 400 trees bearing 36 different varieties
of macadamia nuts. You will also visit an exotic bird farm, a
jeweler, a Protea flower farm, and a wine and micro - brewery outlet.
A stop is scheduled midday at a local park where you'll be treated
to a picnic lunch served in individual keepsake baskets. On the
way home, we will stop at the Lake Elsinore Factory Outlet Stores
where the hunt continues.
Registration for this trip is currently being taken at the
Community /Transit Center located at 3798 Martin Luther King Jr.
Boulevard and will end on Thursday, June 27, 1996. The cost for
the trip is $22.00. CASH ONLY. Registration hours are Monday
through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m., 12:00 noon - 2:00

NATATORIUM BEGINS SUMMER SCHEDULE
The City of Lynwood Recreation and Community Services Department
is proud to 'announce the Summer swim schedule. The Natatorium Swim
Complex, located at 3770 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, is an
indoor 50 -meter swimming pool containing two (2) shallow areas,
one -meter and three -meter divingboards as well as an enclosed sun
deck. The Summer of 1996 will represent the 43rd consecutive year
of summer programming at the Natatorium.
The public recreation swim periods are open to all persons 45" and
above in height, wearing a proper swim suit. Children less than
45" in height must be accompanied by an adult 18 years of age or
older. All recreation swim periods are two (2) hours and have an
admission fee of $.75 for children up to 17 years of age and $1.00
for adults, 18 years and older. No spectators are permitted during
the recreation swim period. Recreation swim is held Monday through
Friday from 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. as
well as each Saturday from 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Swim lessons are scheduled for both morning and evening hours.
The class structure is identical in both time periods. Lessons
are grouped in a session. Each session contains ten (10) thirty -
minute (1/2 hour) group lessons for children and ten (10) forty -
five minute lessons for adults.
Morning lessons o0ate Monday through Fridayor two (2)
consecutive weeks while the evening session periods are scheduled
to meet twice per week, Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and
Thursday, for five (5) consecutive weeks. The cost for all
childrens classes is fifteen dollars ($15.00) and the adults class
fee is twenty dollars ($20.00). This fee includes an entire
session of ten (10) lessons. Classes are limited in size and early
registration is recommended. Registration is taken at the pool
between the hours of 9:00 a.m. through 12:00 noon and 12:30 p.m.
through 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Early evening
registration is also taken Monday through Thursday from 6:00 p.m.
to 8:30 p.m. Classes are developed for students of all ages, from
6 months to mature adults. There is a level of instruction for
everyone.
Registration for Session II, July 8, 1996 to July 19, 1996, morning
classes are as follows: 9:00 a.m. - Tiny Tots (3 through 5
years); Young Beginner (5 through 6 years); Regular Beginner I
(7 through 16 years) ; Advanced Beginner II (pass Advanced Beginner
I) 9:35 a.m. - Young Beginner, Regular Beginner II (pass Regular
Beginner I); Advanced Beginner I (pass Regular Beginner II),
Advanced Beginner II: 10:10 a.m. - Mom, Dad & Me (6 months through
3 years) ; Tiny Tots, Regular Beginner I, Regular Beginner II, 10:45
a.m. - Tiny Tots, Young Beginner, Regular Beginner I, Advanced
Beginner I, 11:20 a.m. - Tiny Tots, Young Beginner, Regular
Beginner II, Intermediate and Swimmer (pass Advanced Beginner II
and Pass Intermediate).

SENIOR CITIZEN'S OPEN HOUSE
The City of Lynwood's Senior Citizens Program and the Senior Advisory Board
cordially invite everyone 55 years and older to attend their free Indoor Picnic
Luncheon/Open House on Thursday, July 18, 1996 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in honor
of the City of Lynwood's 75th Diamond Jubilee Anniversary This event will be held at
Bateman Hall located at 11331 Ernestine Avenue in Lynwood.
There will be live entertainment, door prizes and bingo. Mr Groove will serve as
Master of Ceremonies. Also entertaining the crowd will be singer Ms. Joyce
Green, Silver Stars Gospel Singers, Bob Nelson & the Yellow Rockets, Carson Clowners,
Donald Reed and many more. There will also be various vendors and information booths
on hand, such as; Rosehills Memorial Park, Pain Relief Center, Fair Housing, MTA,
Downey Community Hospital, Angels Inc., and United Health Care, among others. This
event is free to everyone 55 years of age and older, so please join us on Thursday, July
18, 1996.
