McCall Golf Course Advisory Committee
April 13th, 2011 Minutes
Attendees: Allan Morrison, Eric McCormick, James Johnson, Bob Giles,
Ron Noble and Ben Reeder.
Superintendant’s Report – Eric McCormick
Eric measured the greens on 4/12 and we still have 31 inches on 3 Birch
and 34 inches on 8 Aspen. We had roughly 18 inches at this time last year. The
greens are not frozen which is good news. Eric has spread Hi‐Cal lime on the
greens and we lost roughly 4 inches last week.
We were able to get roughly $22K for seal coating the cart paths. With this
money we will be able to crack seal them prior to them being seal coated. It
should be enough money to completely do Aspen and Birch along with a portion
of Cedar. The money was allocated after the Recycling Center was not able to use
their LOT disbursement.
Crew will be brought in on Monday April 25th to start the process of clearing
the greens. The overall crew this year will run 2 men less and a seasonal crew of
4‐5 will begin work until the beginning of June when the full crew will start.
Again, we purchased a 4500 rough mower with LOT funds and did some
minor service work on it. The service expense is going into the cost of the
machine. The extra rough mower will be used as a back up and that has had
some minor work done on it, i.e. rebuilding the rust covered decks. Eric is quite
pleased with the work the mechanic is doing and we are able to stay somewhat
ahead of the repairs.
The crew has been doing some painting, the Golf Course Sign out at the
entrance along with the various swallow houses out on the course.
Web Cam – The web cam is up and running and provides a few of Aspen # 1
tee box and the driving range. You can get the active link from the McCall Golf
Course website, www.McCallGolfClub.com
Professional’s Report – Allan Morrison
Allan discussed getting a few clubhouse projects into next year’s budget.
The clubhouse needs painting and the carpet replaced. We also need a solution
to the exterior stairs off the clubhouse and an alternate means of entering the pro
shop. The existing stairs are rotted in places and we have lost some fascia boards
this winter. It is a dangerous situation and needs to be addressed. The advisory
committee is of the opinion that a community based clubhouse would qualify for
LOT funding since the building is used for community events, charitable auctions
and represents McCall, not only the golf community
The clubhouse closed on April 4th and will re‐open on May 4th. This winter
was a better winter for the restaurant than last year with net revenue up. The
restaurant will have a new chef in Mary Clemmer, as Shaun Theason resigned.
The majority of the kitchen staff and wait staff are in place and preparations for
the summer season have begun and will begin in earnest on May 4th.
The Pro Shop has hired Lynn Swanson, as a Marketing Coordinator. She will
help promote the golf course via Facebook, Twitter and working with the
Chamber and local vendors. We would like to gear the marketing efforts toward
the spring and fall when things are a bit slower. She will also transition into taking
over the tournament program and help organize and deliver the difficult task of
making our local tournaments run smoothly for all the participants.
The tournament entries are starting to come in, with the deadline for entry
into the McCall Amateur on June 1st.
The High School golf team has begun to use the driving range thanks to the
help of Allan and staff clearing off a section and putting out the mats for the kids
to be able to hit.
New Business
There was discussion on setting up a Centennial Golf Tournament to help
celebrate the 100 year anniversary of McCall. Discussion also revolved around
setting up a fundraising tournament to benefit the Chamber of Commerce and
how we might do these two events jointly. The meeting was adjourned at
6:15PM.
