HomeMy Public PortalAboutCommittee Minutes - Golf June 13, 2007MINUTES OF THE MCCALL GOLF COURSE ADVISORY COMMITTEE JUNE 13, 2007 The June 2007 meeting of the GAC convened at 5:37 PM, June 13, in the Golf Club House. Attendees: Bob Giles, Chairman; Hank McCauley, VC/Sec.; Roger Snodgrass; Dari McKim; Lem Malone; Allan Morrison, Head Professional; Eric McCormick, Superintendent. STAFF REPORTS: The Superintendent reported: 1. The cement block work on the dumpster enclosure was completed by Tim Swanson. A wooden front will be installed soon and the project will be complete. 2. Major winter damage to the cart paths will be repaired in the near future. 3. The new mosquito fogger was used for the first time the evening of June 8. Conditions were ideal and the results outstanding. Few mosquitos have been seen in the past week. 4. A project to replace the signage that directs people to the golf course is being considered. More prominent and descriptive signs would assist out of town drivers find the course. A source of funding is needed. 5. The USGA Turf Advisory visit was conducted June 11. The information was very useful and a written report will follow. The Mayor, City Manager and several members of the GAC attended parts of the all day visit. 6. The maintenance staff is fully manned for the first time in memory. Many of the experienced summer hires have returned and the new hires are motivated and learning quickly. The Head Professional reported: 1. The Two Man Best Ball Tournament conducted June 9-10 had a full field, good administration and very poor weather on Sunday. 2. The kitchen, after some early season turmoil, is now well staffed and operating efficiently. 3. Hearthstone has agreed to be a golf course sponsor and will provide range balls, buy passes for their owners, and underwrite entertainment during the Amateur Tournament. 4. Several corporate events have recently been added to the calendar. 5. The course experienced some vandalism during High School graduation weekend. The police were notified. It was noted that the course will be more closely monitored during evening and nighttime periods. 6. The annual Golf Course Benefit Tournament is in need a individuals to organize the event. 7. Current course rules and regulations were briefly discussed. It was suggested that it may be useful to codify them as an addendum to the GAC Mission Statement. The GAC asked: 1. That distance markers be placed on the par 3 hole, where possible. 2. That a distance marker be place at the #8 Cedar drop area. 3. That the #1 Aspen green be considered for reconstruction using this years Benefit Tournament funds. The meeting was adjourned at 7:38 PM.
