HomeMy Public PortalAboutGAC 7_07 MINUTES OF THE MCCALL GOLF ADVISORY COMMITTEE JULY 11, 2007 The McCall Golf Advisory Committee (GAC) was convened at 5:35 PM, July 11, 2007 in the Golf Club House. Attendees: Bob Giles, Chairman; Hank McCauley, VC/Sec.; Roger Snodgrass; Lem Malone; Judy Van Komen; Ron Manser ,( for Head Pro Allan Morrison); Eric McCormack, Superintendent. STAFF REPORTS: Ron Manser reported: 1. Revenues are ahead of last year by more than $18,000 and rounds played have increased by over 2000. 2. The Amateur Tournament is full and there are 180 on the waiting list. Additionally, Hearthstone has agreed to be the title sponsor for the tournament for the next two years. They will sponsor a Friday night party for contestants, sponsor a closest to the pin contest, provide cash support, provide gifts for contestants, and organize a "golf widows" package. 3. The course is using night marshals to keep unauthorized people off the course and reduce vandalism. 4. Allan is looking for volunteers to work on the Golf Benefit Tournament Committee. 5. Participation in the Tuesday night mens scramble is up 60% over last year. 6. The restaurant is fully staffed and business is up. A wedding dinner for 250 was catered last weekend. 7. Comment regarding the mosquito spraying have been numerous and, except for a few, very positive. The Superintendent reported: 1. Several car paths on Cedar will be realigned next week. 2. Spraying to reduce the thistles will begin shortly. 3. Five calls in opposition to the mosquito spraying have been received. 4. A new tee box for #8 Cedar is planned for the fall. OTHER BUSINESS: 1. Lem Malone recommended that additional aerators in the ponds could help eliminate the algae problem. Eric said he would look into the cost/feasibility. Lem also suggested that the creek in front of #5 Aspen be lined with rocks/pebbles so golfers could find their balls. This too will be studied. 2. The committee discussed facility improvements that require funding. Recommendations included replacement of the club houses front concrete steps; repair or replacement of the kitchen steps; providing for additional storage; altering lighting to comply with the city ordinances; and repairing the concrete near the parking garage. 3. The McCall Men's Golf Association has nominated Jim Staup to serve as their alternate representative to the Golf Advisory Board. The City Council's approval of the nomination is requested. The meeting was adjourned by the Chairman at 6:22.
