JANUARY 10, 2007
The January meeting of the GAC was convened at 5:32 PM on January 10, 2007 in the Golf
Club House.
Attendees: Bob Giles, Chairman; Hank McCauley VC/Sec; Judy Van Komen; Roger Snodgrass;
Lem Malone; Allan Morrison, Head Pro; Eric McCormick, Course Supt.
The Minutes of the December 2006 meeting were approved via e-mail vote.
STAFF REPORTS:
The Head Professional reported that consideration is being given to hiring a company to build a
web site for the golf course. The company that built the site for Banbury has been contacted and
other bids may be sought. The Committee agreed that this would be a good use of marketing
funds.
The Course Superintendent reported:
1. A check of several greens showed that they are in good shape. There was very little ice
detected and they were not frozen.
2. A mosquito fogger will be ordered soon so it will be available at the start of the season.
Several courses in the eastern part of Idaho had poor golf seasons last summer due to the
presence of the West Nile Virus.
3. That he is considering using funds from the Golf Benefit Tournament to upgrade the
irrigation system. The computer and software that control the system are outdated and lack
flexibility. These funds were previously earmarked for a new airifier. That purchase would be
deferred until additional funds are available.
OLD BUSINESS:
The Committee reviewed the Head Pro's contract with the City. Aside from the need to condense
and consolidate the document, the only recommended change was in Paragraph II, A., 4. The
Committee believes the golf season should run from May 1 through October 31 (versus
September 30, as now stated). Rationale is that McCall has one of the shortest golf seasons in the
lower 48 and to limit it to five months instead of six could reduce season pass sales and tourist
visits to the area. Additionally, the course has traditionally stayed open until the end of October
and the City retains the right to close it early if the weather conditions so dictate.
NEW BUSINESS:
The Committee reviewed documents concerning a law suit brought against the Idaho Golf
Association(IGA). After extensive discussion it was agreed that the matter was not of concern to
the City and should be handled by the McCall Men's and Ladies Golf Associations and the Head
Professional.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:02 PM.
