V ORAL COMMUNICATIONS VI ADJOURNMENT Regular Meeting - August 18, 1994 REGULAR MEETING OF THE PERSONNEL BOARD CITY OF LYNWOOD JUNE 16, 1994 The regular meeting of the Personnel Board of the City of Lynwood, California was held on Thursday, June 16, 1994, at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Lynwood City Hall, 11330 Bullis Road, Lynwood, California. The agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act. SWEARING IN CEREMONY Andrea Hooper, City Clerk, welcomed and conducted the oath for the newly appointed Commissioner Gilda Acosta - Gonzalez. Commissioner Acosta gave a brief overview of her background and responsibilities as the Health Service Representative for St. Francis Hospital at the Downey location. CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Bell called the meeting to order at 5 p.m. Roll call was taken by Gail Black, Director of Human Resources. All Commissioners were present. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Led by Commissioner Lewis APPROVAL OF MINUTES The motion was made by Commissioner Litke and seconded by Commissioner Lewis to approve the minutes of the meeting of May 19, 1994. All in favor. Motion carried. STUDIES & REPORTS None ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Ms. Black informed the commission that the open house for the Justice Center was cancelled. Ms. Black also informed the commission of the Juneteenth celebration. ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Lewis made the motion and Commissioner Gilpen seconded to adjourn to the next regularly scheduled meeting, July 21, 1994 5 p.m. All in favor. Black, Director of Human Resources ; OA& Subject: REQUEST FOR CLOSED PROMOTIONAL CIVIL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN FACT EXAMINATION: The Lynwood City Code 12 -7.4 Open Examination states: "All examinations, except those specified in subsection 18 -7.3, shall be open unless it is determined by the Personnel Board that such examinations will be promotional." BACKGROUND 1) It is the policy of the City of Lynwood to encourage employees to advance and grow within the organization by allowing promotional examinations whenever appropriate. 2) Mr. Emilio Murga, Director of Public Works, has identified several in -house candidates who would qualify to apply for this position on a promotional basis. MURGA, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS y IN -HOUSE RECRUITMENT FOR CE TECHNICIAN The promotion of Paul Lobana to Civil Engineering Assistant has left a vacant Civil Engineering Technician position in the Department of Public Works. 'In view of the heavy capital improvement project workload, we would like to fill this position as soon as possible. Please accept this memo as a request to initiate an in -house recruitment for the vacant Civil Engineering Technician position.
