Souvenir Program ADJOURNMENT Motion to adjourn to a regular meeting for October 11, 1994 at 3:00 p.m. in the Conference Room, City Hall. LYNWOOD WOMEN'S COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF AUGUST 9, 1994 The regular meeting of the Women's Commission of the City of Lynwood was held August 9, 1994 in the Conference Room at City Hall. (The agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act.) Chairperson Mary Sue Lewis called the meeting to order at 3 15 p.m. Members in attendance were Verna Culp, Mary Sue Lewis, Della Mazziotti, Dr Betty Jackson, and Ethel Pacheco. Staff members present were Carol De Jesus and Silvia Lara. Also Present was Eugenia Zuno who will temporarily replace Silvia Lara as Minute Clerk in September Minutes of July 12, 1994 were not ready on time. Minutes of the Call meeting of August 2, 1994 were read by Ms. Mazzioti A. OLD BUSINESS 1. NACW Conference in Topeka, ,Kansas Commissioners' Dr Jackson and Verna Culp gave oral and written reports of the Topeka, Kansas conference. Commissioners also mentioned that they had a great time and met women from every where. Dr. Jackson mentioned that a unique thing was that they were the only ones who had lapel pins. Dr. Jackson and Ms. Culp were able to take a picture with the Governor of Kansas. Ms. Culp brought in an overview summary of the Kansas Conference for distribution to Mayor and Council. Dr Jackson mentioned that she is in the process of mailing out City of Lynwood souvenirs to the Governor of Kansas as a gesture of gratitude for her hospitality. L YNWOOD WOMEN'S' COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF AUGUST 9, 1994 B. Commissioners' Workshop Commissioners' asked Ms. De Jesus to contact Dr Liddell to make arrangements to have the Color guards to be present at the Commissioners' Workshop Dr Jackson presented the commissioners with a draft of the Introduction for the Women's' Workshop Dr Jackson also presented the commissioners with guidelines for the workshop Ms. De Jesus contacted Natalie Salazar of Sheriffs Station to be a speaker for the workshop Dr Jackson mentioned that Ms. Truby and Ms. Fields have both accepted to be speakers. There being no further Business, the Lynwood Women's Commission Adjourned at 4:35 p. m. , L YNWOOD WOMEN'S COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JUL Y 12, 1994 The regular meeting of the Women's Commission of the City of Lynwood was held July 12, 1994 in the Conference Room at City Hall. Also Present were Barbara Anthony, Cathy Tepper, and Councilman Louis J Heine. Minutes of July 12, 1994 stand approved as read by Ms. Lara. A. OLD BUSINESS 1. NACW Conference in Topeka, Kansas Commissioners' Dr Jackson and Verna Culp will both represent the Lynwood Women's Commission at the NACW conference in Topeka, Kansas. Commissioners' will bring back informational materials with them. Councilman Heine suggested to have the commissioners' who will attend the conference make a presentation before Council. Dr Jackson informed the commissioners that Vernice Dredd has been nominated by the board of directors to serve a year's term. Dr Jackson mentioned that she will ask the national president if she would like to participate in our workshop Dr Jackson welcomed Cathy Tepper from Facilities Maintenance Department. L YNWOOD WOMEN'S' COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JULY 12 9 1994 Ms. De Jesus mentioned that Council has only appropriated so much funds for commissioners' conference in Topeka, Kansas. Ms. De Jesus requested to use women's commission should additional expenditures arise MOTION, MOVED, AND SECONDED that additional expenditures be taken out of the women's general fund. 2. Workshop Commissioners discussed the need to extend more time to plan the workshop They scheduled September 30, 1994 as the workshop event. MOVED, SECONDED, AND CARRIED to postpone the commissioners workshop until September 30, 1994 due to a need for extended time to plan the event. Commissioners mentioned that letters to the proposed speakers should be drafted and mailed out as soon as possible. Dr Jackson suggested to the commissioners that staff look for accommodations for out of town guests who will attend the workshop. Guest will pay but at least they will be provided with some recommendations. Mr Heine suggested the Travelodge while Ms. Mazziotti suggested the Embassy Suites in Downey Ms Mazziotti suggested to call the speakers first then mail out invitation and then call them again. MOTIONMOVED, SECONDED, AND CARRIED That Ms. Mazziotti be responsible for working with staff on mailing out invitations. Ms. Mazziotti is also working on flyers with Ms. Lara. MOVED, SECONDED, AND CARRIED that a special call meeting take place on August 2, 1994 at 3 00 p.m. LYNWOOD WOtii IEN'S COMMISSION • MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JULY 12 9 1994 The workshop is entitled "Women Against Crime & Crime Against Women" The Workshop Speakers and subject are as follows. Camille Murphy, keynote speaker, Dr Shirley Liddell, Teachers Against Crime, Lorna Hawkins, Mothers Against Crime, Lt. Cornell Rhee Truby, RNN.P, Women In The Military Against Crime, Dr Carol Jordan Harris, MD, Women In Medicine Against Crime, Ann Fields, Women In Medicine Against Crime, Dr Betty Jackson, Women In Medicine Against Crime, Vernice Dredd, Crime and Employment, Almarelis Watkins, Women Against Child Abuse, Representative from Su Casa, Shelter Aid To Women, B. NEW BUSINESS 2 WATTS HEALTH FOUNDATION Ms. Lewis mentioned that the Watts Health Foundation Program is a good program and that she is familiar with Geneses program in Watts (which she believed is a great program). Ms. Culp mentioned that the Watts Health Foundation Program was presented to Council a little bit different from that of the Women's Commission.
