COMMISSIONER(S) AND PUBLIC ORALS 0 ADJOURNMENT MOTION TO ADJOURN TO A REGULAR MEETING FOR MAY 10, 1994 IN THE CONFERENCE ROOM, CITY HALL. �Ie Iii;_ �•_�. �, Y LYNWOOD WOMEN'S COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF MARCH 8, 1994 The regular meeting.of the Women's Commission of the City of Lynwood was held March 8, 1994 in the Conference Room at City Hall. (The agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act.) Chairperson Ethel Pacheco called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m Members in attendance were: Verna Culp, Mary Sue Lewis, Della Mazziotti, Dr Betty Jackson, and Ethel Pacheco Staff members present were Silvia Lara and Carol De Jesus. Minutes of February 9, 1994 was approved with corrections. Dr Jackson welcomed Councilman Louis J. Heine to the meeting OLD BUSINESS L R A. Discussion on the Retreat Scheduled for April 21, 1994 Dr. Jackson mentioned that Lt. Cornell Rhee Truby has agreed to be one of the presenters in Women in the Military against Crime. Ms Lt. Truby is also the nurse practitioner for the adolescent center at Charles Drew Medical Center. Ms. Lewis suggested Monica Williams as a speaker to address Young Adults /Teenager and Mothers Against Crime B. Salute to Women's History Month Luncheon , I i Ms. Mazziotti recapped the items discussed at the Women's History Month Luncheon call meeting: - An invitation was drafted - Ms. Culp suggested that "Coffee Cup" should cater this event and that it should be buffet style. - Cynthia Green -Geter had a video of Evelyn Wells entitled this is Your Life and that Cynthia wanted to sing. - Ms. Culp suggested to have a special raffle in which people would buy tickets for ten cents and a sign would say "Guess What in the World can you get for a Dime - Door Prizes MOVED, SECONDED AND CARRIED that all notices be sent to the Friends on the Commission. Ms. Culp mentioned that she and Ms. Lewis both attended the Compton Women's Commission event. OOD WOMEN'S Ck AISSI0N TES OF THE MEETING OF MARCH 8, 1994 Due to some minor problems the commission might encounter relative to the planned luncheon event, Ms. De Jesus suggested that the March 31, 1994 luncheon be held as a sponsored event rather than a city funded function Several businesses and individuals have agreed to sponsor the event, e.g., Leighton Hull Management, Bevan Thomas, Della Mazziotti, Cynthia Green -Geter and Western Arborists Pageantry was willing to donate the plaques Dr Jackson mentioned that in the past, the Commission's original plan to celebrate the Women's Month was to honor some women in the community who have provided outstanding contributions to the City of Lynwood The list included the following: Jen Heine, Frances Cunningham, Ann Fields, Silvia Lars, Vera Reed, and some employees who were no longer connected with the City Staff liaison during that time informed the commission that the members can not honor the women they have suggested and subsequently, staff changed the whole plan and honored some public officials. Dr. Jackson suggested that in addition to Evelyn Wells, the commission revert to its original plan of honoring the women mentioned. Margaret Warren, the commission's past minute clerk and city's former deputy clerk was added to the list. MOVED, SECONDED AND CARRIED that the Commission pay tribute to Jen Heine, Ann Fields, Vera Reed, Frances Cunningham, Silvia Lara, Margaret Warren, and Evelyn Wells, Founder. MOVED, SECONDED AND CARRIED that Councilman Heine be the Master of Ceremonies. C. Change of Meeting Time and Date Ms. De Jesus reported that at its March 7, 1994 City Council regular meeting, Council approved, on a 3 to 2 votes, the change of commission meeting date and time from 2nd Wednesday at 5:30 p m to 2nd Tuesday at 3:00 p.m of each month. D. Election MOVED, SECONDED AND CARRIED that Election be postponed to April 12, 1994 meeting There being no further business, the Lynwood Women Commission Meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
