HomeMy Public PortalAbout08-2005 Library ReportCITY OF McCALL MCCALL PUBLIC LIBRARY DEPARTMENT REPORT MONTH: August 2005 AS of DATE: August 3, 2005 1 Updated – Aug., 2005 Library On-Line Catalog Project We have added this month’s purchases and donations to the database, and now have 28,925 records in Spectrum. We have 19,377 records fully cataloged in the Patron Access Catalog. Library  2 Updated – Aug., 2005 Summer Reading Program Summer Reading was a great success. There were 97 students enrolled, 70 school-aged and 27 pre-schoolers, compared to a total of 42 last year. These kids read an amazing total of 397 hours of reading, and the total attendance for the 6 weeks in June and July was 673. This program is intended to keep children reading during the summer so their reading levels will stay at grade level, and I would say that we have succeeded it this goal here in McCall. Library  3 Unchanged – Aug., 2005 Read to Me Program The Read-to-Me program is suspended for the summer. More in the fall. Library  4 Updated – Aug., 2005 Patronage and Circulation We have finished the tenth month of the fiscal year, and we had 4,166 patrons in July, making the total patronage 28,667 so far this year, compared with this time last year when there were 4,383 patrons in July and a total of 25,973 by the end of the tenth month. There was circulation of 2,207 adult materials and 1,255 children’s materials last month, bringing the total to 3,462 for July and 27,965 for the year. Last year at this time the total circulation was 3,654 for July and 24,953 for the year. Library  5 Updated – Aug., 2005 Presentations We are having a series of adult programs this summer to encourage use of the library and highlight our services to the community. These programs will be on Thursday nights at 7:00, and this month include aroma therapy and an author’s book signing.   6 Updated – Aug., 2005 Story time The attendance at our story time was 412 children at the programs in July, thanks to the attendance at the Friday reading incentive program. There were 341 children in July of last year. There were 341 children in July of last year. Library  7 Updated – Aug., 2005 Proctoring tests We have had 6 students this month for a variety of tests from several schools. They continue to be very appreciative of the service that allows them to finish a degree here in McCall. Library  8 Updated – Aug., 2005 LiLI databases We continue to encourage patrons to use the databases, but usage has dropped off over the summer. Use will pick up this fall. Library  9 Updated – Aug., 2005 Community service. There has been no community service this month. Library  10 Updated – Aug., 2005 Donations There have been a total of $150 in donations this month, plus a very special donation, given by 3 11-year-old girls, which was $115.60, the proceeds of a lemonaide stand, to be used for children’s books, specifically chapter books for 11-year-olds! Library  11 New item – Aug., 2005 Inventory We have hooked up the palm-pilot to do the first inventory, and are loading it and practicing with it. The inventory will be done is several steps this fall, after all the records are updated with local information. Library  12 Updated – Aug., 2005 Bi-lingual story hour The story hour will not return until this fall. Library  13 Updated – Aug., 2005 Evaluations Next evaluations will be done in September. Library  14 Updated – Aug., 2005 Staff Meg is back at work, and folks are taking vacations, which makes us a little short staffed, but everyone works well together, and we are doing fine. Library  15 Updated – Aug., 2005 Volunteers Gay Foster is our only volunteer now, but she is helping me with the database, and is a great help. Library  16 Updated – Aug., 2005 Districting project We have received the letter of intent from Cascade, and the letter from McCall will go the the commissioners in August. There is a request to be put on the ballot before the commissioners, and this will be decided on Aug. 22. Library  17      18 Updated – Aug., 2005 Painting We found a painter that had a short window of time available, and the building got painted over 2 days. It is a very good job, power-washed, primed and painted, and was done by Chance LaRue and his crew. Library   Completed – Aug., 2005 Roof The roof has been repaired by Northwest Roofing, and they will look at it again this fall. Library   Updated – Aug. , 2005 Computers Computer use this month was 1006, the first month over 1000 ever. This brings the total patron use of the computers this last 10 months up to 5,968. July was especially busy. Library   Updated – Aug., 2005 Staff training We continue with Excel and LiLI lessons, and the staff are becoming quite skilled with the Excel spreadsheets they are using. Library   Updated – Aug., 2005 Library board No board meeting in July.          Updated – Aug., 2005 LOT projects Got a small amount of LOT money for battery units. Library
