YOUTH COMMISSION
The City of Lynwood Youth Commission met in a regular session on May 4, 1994 at
6:00 p.m. at the Lynwood Community /Transit Center, located at 3798 Martin Luther
King Boulevard, Lynwood.
Chairperson Jesus Trigo presided.
Roll Call
Chairperson Jesus Trigo, Vice Chairperson Michelle Zavala, Commissioner Ruth Acosta,
Commissioner Lizeth Gutierrez, and Commissioner Maylene Hardin answered roll call.
Commissioner Cameron Green, Commissioner Sabrinya Green, Commissioner Rasheed
Gregory, and Commissioner David Hampton did not answer roll call.
Certification of the Posting of the Agenda
Recreation Staff Member, Diana Escalante certified the posting of the agenda.
Approval of Past Minutes
It was moved by Vice Chairperson Michelle Zavala and seconded by Commissioner Ruth
Acosta to approve the minutes of March 2, 1994 and April 6, 1994. Motion carried.
Minutes approved.
Election of Officers
Chairperson Jesus Trigo turned the meeting over to Recreation and Community Services
Project Manager, Jim Given.
Chairperson
Commissioner Michelle Zavala nominated Commission Jesus Trigo as Chairperson.
Commissioner Gutierrez seconded the nomination.
Commissioner Lizeth Gutierrez nominated Commissioner Maylene Hardin as
Chairperson. Commissioner Michelle Zavala seconded the nomination.
Commissioner Maylene Hardin nominated Michelle Zavala as Chairperson.
Commissioner Jesus Trigo seconded the nomination

With a unanimous A Commissioner Jesus Trigo was elted as Chairperson.
Vice Chairperson
Commissioner Jesus Trigo nominated Commissioner Michelle Zavala as Vice
Chairperson. Commissioner Lizeth Gutierrez seconded the nomination.
Commissioner Maylene Hardin nominated herself as Vice Chairperson. Commissioner
Ruth Acosta seconded the nomination.
With a unanimous vote, Commissioner Michelle Zavala was elected Vice Chairperson.
Mr. Given turned the meeting over to Jesus Trigo, Chairperson.
Program Reports
Recreation and Community Services
Mr. Given announced the following Recreation and Community Services upcoming
activities:
A. The City will commemorate Cinco de Mayo with a celebration on Saturday,
May 7, 1994. The newly completed Cesar Chavez Lane and picnic
shelters will dedicated as part of the opening ceremonies.
B. The City of Lynwood will host the Southeast Municipal Athletic Association
Track and Field meet on Saturday, May 14, 1994 at Lynwood High School.
This track meet will feature young athletes from neighboring cities
competing for advancement to the finals on May 28, 1994.
Teen Center /Youth Council
Youth Council Vice President Alex Vela announced that the Youth Council will sponsor
the carnival games for the Cinco de Mayo celebration. All proceeds will be used for
upcoming Teen Center activities.
Youth Council President Felicano Salazar challenged the Youth Commission and staff to
a basketball game against the Youth Council. Chairperson Jesus Trigo asked Mr. Salazar
to check possible dates for reserving the Community Center's gym, preferably in June
and report back at the next meeting.
Commissioners Cameron and Sabrinya Green arrived at 6:25 p.m.

Youth Service Award 0
Recreation Staff member Diana J. Escalante reported to the Commission that the
interviews for the Youth Service Awards had been conducted and the winner had been
invited to the Cinco De Mayo Celebration where they will receive the awards.
She then thanked Commissioners Acosta, Hardin and Zavala for assisting her with the
interviews.
Inwood Graffiti Media Day
Mr. Given reported the City of Lynwood Graffiti Media has been scheduled for Saturday,
June 4. Ms. Escalante added that this event will be of a more informative nature than
the previous Youth Commission's Anti - Graffiti Days.
Public Orals
Youth Council President Felicano Salazar discussed the upcoming Cinco de Mayo
Celebration and distributed the flyer.
Commission Orals
Commissioner Cameron Green apologized for not attending the last two Commission
meetings.
Commissioner Maylene Hardin thanked the Commission for nominating her and
congratulated Vice Chairperson Michelle Zavala and Chairperson Jesus Trigo on winning
the elections.
Commissioner Michelle Zavala reminded the Commissioner to arrive at Dymally Park
on May 7, 1994 by 1.45 for the Cinco de Mayo Celebration.
Chairperson Jesus Trigo thanked the Youth Council for the determination and fundraising
efforts. Second, he elaborated on the City's All American City efforts.
Adjournment
It was moved by Vice Chairperson Michelle Zavala and seconded by Commissioner
Maylene Hardin to adjourn to the next regularly scheduled meeting on
Wednesday, June 1, 1994. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned.
