Roll Call of Commissioners present: Chairperson Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner David Litsinger Bette Espeseth Yolanda Bays Ann Fields Lucille Walker Barbara Newton Lorna Hawkins was absent Staff present Mr Ralph Davis Mr Davis certified the posting of the agenda Commissioner Espeseth motioned to approve the minutes of the November 15, 1995 meeting. Commissioner Fields seconded the motion. The Commission agrees and the minutes were so ordered INFORMATION ITEMS Mr Ralph Davis reported on Character Counts Week He stated that this program was enjoyed by everyone Along with Character Counts Week, the Anti Graffiti Day Program was also celebrated with approximately 100 children participating on this day. The Halloween Carnival was held on October 31, 1995 in the Community Transit Center There were various game booths, food and candy for everyone who came to this event. The Opening Ceremonies for the Youth Soccer Program was held on October 28, 1995. There were approximately 500 children present at this event The Natatorium is currently closed due to a pump failure It is estimated that a new pump will cost $15,000 00. The Block Watch Captain's approved a bilingual form created by the Sheriff's Department to be utilized in auto accidents. This form would make filing a report easier for those who do not speak english. Mr Ralph Davis reported that Andrea Hooper was re- elected City Clerk, Iris Pygatt was re- elected City Treasurer, and Louis Byrd and Louis J Heine were re- elected to the City Council. Ms. Margaret Araujo was elected to the School Board also 0 0 COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 15, 1995 MEETING Ms. Cynthia Green -Geter and Ms Thelma Calvin - Williams were re- elected to the School Board. Mr. Ralph Davis apologized on behalf of Deputy Haney because he was unable to attend the meeting. Mr. Ralph Davis gave a report given to him by Deputy Haney stating that there has been a drop in the crime rate. SCHEDULED MATTERS Mr. Davis gave an update on Community Services Day which will be held on Saturday, December 16, 1995. At the moment 25 applications have been turned in Janice Thomas and Mark Flores are scheduled to meet with Mr Oh of Frontier Market regarding the $1,500 00 to be spent at their store. Letters have also been mailed to various companies asking for donations. Toys are being collected by Drive By Agony and the Marine Reserves (Toys for Tots). Commissioner Barbara Newton was elected as the Community Affairs Commission tree decorator There will be a special election on December 19, 1995 regarding Measure L. The purpose of Measure L is to keep the option open for the City of Lynwood to have a Casino. The City of Lynwood's Candy Cane Lane Christmas Parade is scheduled to be held on December 8, 1995. St Francis will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary on December 2, 1995 with a celebration in the park The Commissioners Dinner will be held at Bateman Hall on December 7, 1995 at 6 30 p m. Mr. Ralph Davis reminded five (5) Commissioners that their terms were going to expire in December, 1995. He asked for them to submit letters to get reappointed to the City Clerk's Office In June of 1996 the City of Lynwood will be celebrating it's 75th Anniversary. A big celebration is being planned for this day The Community Affairs Commission will be involved with this program. PUBLIC ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None E COMMUNITY AFFAIRS MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 15, 1995 COMMISSION ORALS COMMISSION MEETING 1 Commissioner Fields reported that Ahmen Rah was elected to the Compton College School Board She also announced that Compton College won their Homecoming Football game. Commissioner Walker reported that the library is doing well. She also stated that on the south side of Lynwood Road there is too much trash. Commissioner Espeseth stated that she attended the Ground Breaking Ceremony on October 26, 1995 She also stated that she likes the idea of students wearing uniforms to school The meeting was adjourned at 6 00 p m until the next regularly scheduled meeting on December 20, 1995. 0 ol
