COMMISSION ORAL COMMUNICATIONS ADJOURNMENT Motion to adjourn to the regularly scheduled meeting on October 18, 1995 at 5:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, 11330 Bullis• Road, City of Lynwood, CA 90262. tortes %sf11294.s 0 0 CITY OF LYNWOOD COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE AUGUST 16, 1995 MEETING The Community Affairs Commission meeting of August 16, 1995 was called to order by Chairperson David Litsinger at 5:00 p.m. The pledge of Allegiance was led by Commissioner Bette Espeseth. Roll Call of Commissioners present: Chairperson Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner Commissioner 3avid Litsinger Bette Espeseth Yolanda Bays Ann Fields Lucille Walker Barbara Newton Commissioner Lorna Hawkins was not in attendance. Staff present: Mr. Ralph Davis Mr. Davis certified the posting of the agenda. Commissioner Espeseth motioned to approve the minutes of the July 19, 1995 meeting. Commissioner Newton seconded the motion. The Commission agrees and the minutes were so ordered. INFORMATION ITEMS Mr. Davis handed out to the Commissioners information on the August Arts Project, the After School Program at Hosler Jr. High School, fliers on upcoming Tennis classes, the Baby Anthony Program from St. Francis Medical Center, the Agenda for the Block Watch Captains meeting and several newsreleases. Mr. Davis announced that the Lynwood Activity Center will close permanently on August 31, 1995. New locations for classes that were held at the Activity Center have not been determined. Mr. Davis asked for all Commissioners to read the Block Watch Minutes and if there are any questions to feel free and ask. SCHEDULED MATTERS The Senior Citizens Brainstorming Luncheon was sponsored by Supervisor Burkes Office. In attendance were Senior Citizens from the following cities, Carson, Compton, and Lynwood. A letter of Thank you was received from Supervisor Burkes Office. Mr. Davis stated that the City Council has changed the policy on yard sale. This is due to too many people having sales without purchasing permits. The City Council has set up the following schedule for sales to take place, January through March - last 0 0 COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMIES MINUTES OF THE MEETING ON AUGUST 16, 1995 weekend in March, April through June through September -last weekend in December - first weekend in December. - last weekend in June, July September, October through Fiestas Patrias will be celebrated this year as a Street Fair. The celebration will take place from September 15 through September 17, 1995. The Radio Station KWKW is sponsoring the entertainment for this event. Pageantry Productions is handling the event coordination and the selling of vendors booths. Cost per booth is between $500.00 and $700.00. Shamrock Shows will provide the carnival at this event. Mr. Davis reported on the Community Service Day Program for this year by saying that so far the Recreation and Community Services Department purchased gift certificates from Frontier Warehouse totaling $1,500.00. Ralph Davis recommended to the Commissioners that they put in a motion to set up a procedure for this event. Commissioner Espeseth moved to approve the motion and Commissioner Newton seconded the motion. Mr. Davis will come back with the date of the event and an ordinance. PUBLIC ORALS NONE COMMISSION ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Commissioner Walker reported that the Lynwood Methodist Church will be celebrating its 80th Anniversary. There will be a program at the church this Saturday. Commissioner Bays reported that at Wilson Elementary School there have been twelve (12) reports of a man exposing himself to parents. This was reported to the Sheriff's Department. Commissioner Newton that in two (2) weeks school will begin. Commissioner Espeseth would like to know how many small businesses are in Lynwood because they are usually the ones that complain the most about needing more money. Commissioner Espeseth also reported that today is the last day for Alpha Beta. Chairperson Litsinger reported that someone is dumping oil between Cortland and Lugo. The oil is getting into people's yards. The regularly scheduled meeting was rescheduled to Wednesday, September 13, 1995. The meeting was adjourned at 6:10 p.m. by Chairperson David Litsinger
