Report on Business.Improvement District B. � Report on Lynwood Water Rates PUBLIC ORAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Motion to adjourn to the regularly scheduled meeting on March 15, 1995 at 5:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, 11330 Bullis Road, City of Lynwood, Ca 90262. f ' CITY OF LYNWOOD COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 18,•1995 MEETING The Community Affairs Commission meeting of January 18, 1995 was called to order by Chairperson David Litsinger at 5 00 p.m. The pledge of Allegiance was led by Commissioner Bette Espeseth. Staff present: Mr. Ralph Davis For the record Ralph Davis, Director of Recreation & Community Services Department, stated that the Commission did in fact meet on December 21, 1995. Roll was taken and then the Commissioners were dismissed to attend the Ohhh Christmas Tree program. Commissioners present: Chairperson David Litsinger Commissioner Bette Espeseth Commissioner liucille Walker Commissioner Ann Fields Staff present: Mr. Ralph Davis Commissioners Espeseth motioned to approve the minutes of the December 21, 1995 meeting. Commissioner Fields seconded the motion. The Commission agrees and the minutes were so ordered. INFORMATION ITEMS Ralph Davis announced that at the January 17, 1995 Council Meeting the Master Plan for Mervyn M. Dymally Park was approved. The new plan for the park is have three (3) soccer fields, one olympic size and lighted, a junior size field for the children, and a synthetic field. There will also be three (3) baseball diamonds. There will be less tennis courts due to the fact that the new High School will have tennis courts therefore the. tennis will play at the High School. The plan also includes for more trees, play areas, and more group picnic areas The Teen Center is also incorporated in the master plan Ralph Davis also mentioned other upcoming events First is the Black History, program to be held on February 25, 1995 -This program will help bring awareness & education as to the various cultures of Lynwood The program will include a Lip -Sync and Look - A -Like - I I M •y r 1� COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE MEETING ,JANUARY 18, 1995 Competition. On March 3, .1995 Louis Heine will be hosting the Unity Dinner at Bateman Hall. There will be a variety of meals from the various cultures there are in the community. The City of Lynwood is preparing for the Lynwood All City Track Meet to be held in April. All of the elementary schools in the area will, be participating. This is the largest track meet in the State of California. On Tuesday, February 14, 1995 the City Council will be meeting jointly with the Lynwood Unified School District. This will be an open meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m. David Litsinger mentioned that Tuesday, February 31, 1995 is the date of the Mathathon Competition. This is a math competition where third through sixth graders compete against other elementary schools. On Thursday, February 23,' 1995 at Bateman Hall the Walk of Fame program honoring Yvonne Brathwaite Burke and Armando Rea and other prominent individuals will be held. The Martin Luther King Jr. Basketball Tournament was held on January i4 through the 15, 1995. Sixteen teams participated in this event. The program was a big success. Ralph Davis stated that damage was caused to many areas of the City due to the recent rainfall. The City Council approved a 'resolution to apply for Federal Aid, FEMA. SCHEDULED•MATTERS The Sheriffs Department proposed to implement a citizens patrol program. The program is designed to involve the community in helping protect the city streets. The program will have patrons drive in unmarked cars and be equipped with radios to call the Sheriffs in case of an emergency. The Community Services Day program was held December 19, 1994. All Commissioners agreed that the program was successful and was well appreciated by the community. The Commissioners also stated that there was a shortage of toys and not enough businesses from the community participated. The Commissioners would like for the future all applicants be screened more in order to make sure all the information is valid. Ralph Davis stated that McWhorter Technologies from Illinois donated $1500.00 to the Community Services Day program. .t, w COMMUNITY AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE MEETING JANUARY 18, 1995 The Ohhh Christmas Tree program was held December 21, 1994. This program is intended to have the Block Watch Captains involve everyone from that particular block to decorate their prospective tree. The Commissioners all said that they really enjoyed themselves There was much community pride, and everyone was in the Christmas spirit. Santa Claus and the Senior Choral Group did a great job.at the awards program. The winning street was Nevada Street. All entries in the program received an award. The Commissioners felt that there was not publicity for the program. Hopefully next year there will be more entries. The Commissioners agreed that the Block Watch Captains did a great job The Commissioners requested that the pictures that were taken of the Ohhh Christmas Tree program be printed in the Lynwood N' Perspective. PUBLIC ORALS None COMMISSIONERS ORALS Commissioner Fields stated that on January 23, 1995 in Huntington Park at Gage Jr. High School, 7 00 p.m., there will be a meeting to discuss as to why the telephone expenses have gone up. Commissioner Walker reported that the library is doing great Commissioner Espeseth wanted to know why the Code Enforcement does not work on weekends She also reported that the Salvation Army prepared 1,000 baskets and that it is going to cost $60,000.00 to get the roof fixed of the Salvation Army building. Commissioner Newton reported that she is off track Commissioner Hawkins reported that the program Drive By Agony is going to have a program for the adults and a youth orientation. The Peace March is scheduled for April 23, 1995 from 10:00 a.m. to 12 00 noon. The meeting was adjourned at 6:00 p.m. by Chairperson David Litsinger.
