Roll Call d Minutes: February 22, 1995 If PUBLIC ORALS IIL BOARD MEMBER'S ORALS IV ADJOURNMENT * Next Meeting - April 26, 1995 MINUTES LAW ENFORCEMENT REVIEW BOARD Meeting of February 22, 1995 The regular meeting of the Law Enforcement Review Board was held on February 22, 1995, in the City Hall Council Chambers. (The agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act.) The meeting was called to order at 6:04 p.m. by Chairperson David Willis. Pledge of allegiance was conducted by Commissioner Henry Guidry ATTENDANCE Board Members in attendance were: Elizabeth Dixon, Hilario Esparza, Henry Guidry, David Willis. Councilmembers present: Councilman Louis J. Heine. Staff members in attendance: Roger Haley, Tony Romero Sheriffs Liason: Sgt. Woody Wilson PUBLIC ORALS Councilman Heine announced the upcoming Unity Dinner to be held on March 3, 1995 in which Councilman Heine informed the Board what type of food would be served at the Unity Dinner Sgt. Wilson informed the Board of an incident that took place on Long Beach Blvd which involved three young juveniles and two Officers The juveniles pulled out a gun on the officers and began shooting at them. Apparently one of the officers shot back and wounded the juvenile on the leg. Then the juvenile left the scene and got home and reported to his mother that he was shot by a drive by shooter. The mother quickly called the Sheriff's department to report what had happened to her son. When the Sheriff's went out to see the juvenile the officer's recognized that he was the one that the other officer's wounded back on Long Beach Blvd. An arrest was made. Law Enforcement Review Board Regular Meeting Page 3 BOARD MEMBER'S ORALS Mrs. Dixon asked what upcoming events is coming up for the Law Enforcement Review Board to participate and also asked if the Board will be active in the future. Mr Haley responded that he did some research with the City Attorney and was advised to be real careful to follow the prescribed code as of the Board Mr Haley read the Duties of the Board, Section 2 -24.5. to the Board members and explained that he recommends that the Law Enforcement Review Board does not violate the spirit of the Board Mrs. Dixon mentioned that recently the City received an award for the reduction of crime and believes that the Law Enforcement Review Board should have been there along with Council to receive the award since it does have something to due with the Law Enforcement Review Board Mr Willis asked if Mr Haley could inform the Board on upcoming events that have to due with the Board Mr Haley mentioned also that the City received an award for Graffiti Reduction Program along with the City of Compote. Mr. Guidry requested that fliers advertising the Board be distributed along with the water bills to inform the public that there is a Board that receives complaints. Mrs. Dixon also commented on how the Unity Dinner was announced through the water bills as well as the Women's Commission. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6.20 p. m. to the April 26, 1995 regular meeting.
