New Goals and Objectives of the Commission ADJOURNMENT 9 The regular meeting of the Women's Commission of the City of Lynwood, California was held on Tuesday, September 12, 1995 at 3:00 p m., in the Conference Room of the Lynwood City Hall. The Agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act. Members in attendance: Commissioners: Ethel Pacheco Verna Culp Dr. Betty Jackson Mary Sue Lewis Della Mazziotti Friend of the Commission: Barbara Anthony Councilman Louis Heine Eugenia Zuno, Minute Clerk Absent: Carol De Jesus, Staff Liaison I ADMINISTRATIVE ITEMS Minutes of previous meeting: September 12, 1995 were approved with the necessary corrections requested by Dr. Betty Jackson. Minutes excluded that Commissioner Ethel Pacheco suggested that Commissioners be penalized with $1 if a City pin is not worn at each meeting. Dr. Betty Jackson suggested that if monies are going to be collected than a motion should be called. Motion was made and property seconded, all in favor Pledge of Allegiance: NONE II. DISCUSSION ITEM A REPORT ON NACW CONVENTION Dr. Betty Jackson indicated that the dues were not paid and she was not going to be allowed to vote. Fortunately she was allowed to vote with the agreement that a check will be sent at a later date. She also indicated that despite the problem she encountered, it turned out to be a great conference. ' Page 2 Lynwood Women's Commission Minutes of September 12, 1995 Dr. Jackson also indicated that Alda was one of the best conferences she has attended It ran on time and there was no lag in between She said they were great sessions and indicated that information she brought back was given to Carol De Jesus, Staff Liaison. She attended all the Women Initiative Conferences, they had different workshops on meditation, legislation, violence and many others. She was able to participate in all the Board Meetings and she indicated that California was very well in attendance. She said it was great. Dr. Betty Jackson indicated that she brought back books on "Join the Working Women" and that each Commissioner should fill out and return the form that is enclosed. Commissioner Jackson informed the Commission that the National office has moved to downtown Washington D.C. B. CASINO NIGHT IN LYNWOOD /DISCUSSION OF LEGAL IMPLICATION The Commission further discussed the legal implication on the above subject. Councilman Heine informed the Commission that City Manager Gonzales suggested that this item be tabled and discussed at the next meeting scheduled for October 10, 1995 as he felt Carol De Jesus, Staff Liaison needs to go over it with them. C. NEW GOALS AND OBJECTIVES Commissioner Culp suggested that the Lynwood Women's Commission start a toy donation for the Women and Children shelter in the City of Lynwood. She also indicated that a box be put in the City Hall, where toy donations cand be collected. Commissioner requested that a motion be made to set a box in the City Hall where toy donations can be collected and that Councilman Heine be Santa Claus at the time of delivery to the Women and Children Shelter in Lynwood. It was moved and properly seconded, all in favor Commissioner Mazziotti suggested that each Commissioner buy a gift over $5. but not to exceed $10. �Y. PAGE 3 LYNWOOD WOMEN'S COMMISSION MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 12, 1995 III COMMISSION ORALS Commissioners not wearing a pin submitted $1 Councilman Heine and Barbara Anthony donated $1 Commissioners asked that Staff be in charge of saving monies collected at each meeting. Minute Clerk counted money and reported that a total of $6.00 was collected at the September 12th meeting and indicated that the money was going to be forwarded to Carol De Jesus. Dr. Betty Jackson informed the Commission that she was able to get a hot water heater to give to the Dominguez Family Shelter that service women in Compton, Lynwood and Carson Communities She said this was done in behalf of the Lynwood Women's Commission. Chair Mary Sue Lewis requested for the second time that the Lynwood Women's Commission meetings be announced in the Lynwood 'N perspective. Minute Clerk indicated that staff will take care of it. IV ADJOURNMENT Commission adjourned at 4:45 p m to E1 Farallon Restaurant for the Installation of Officers Dinner.
