Presentation by representatives from Watts Health Foundation: Prior to the commission's meeting, Ms. Dixon, a Friend of the Commission, contacted Chairperson Lewis for permission to have representatives from Watts Health Foundation speak on a program involving women's issues that she perceived would be of interest to the Commission. Mr Kensi and Mr Gibson from the Watts Foundation gave a brief overview of their program. The program deals with along term residential facility for post partum women who have children also struggling with addiction to alcohol, drugs or combination of both. This treatment program lasts for about 6 months to sometimes a year as there are several phases the individual has to undertake. Under this intensive program, stress will be placed on education, clerical skills, etc. Professional staff are readily available. LYNWOOD WOMEN'S COMMISSION MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF JUNE 14, 1994 E The program is funded by a federal proram called the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment for five years and the program is now at its second phase. Due to the need being so great, there is an urgency to find a new facility for growth expansion, a type of living environment that will help the individual regain a direction in life. Thus, the Watts Foundation is seeking a facility in Lynwood for this pupose However, the funding agency requires that the Foundation should have affiliation with linkages in the City that are not only linked to the court system but to advocates for women and children committed to women' issues such as the Lynwood Women's Commission. There being no further business, the Lynwood Women's Commission Meeting was adjourned at 5:45 p. m.
