The Agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the Brown Act. CALL TO ORDER Mary Sue Lewis, Chair called the meeting to order at 3:10 p.m. Roll call was taken by Ms. Eugenia Zuno, Minute Clerk. Commissioners in attendance along with Chair Mary Sue Lewis were Dr. Betty Jackson, Della Mazziotti, Ethel Pacheco, and Verna Culp. Also in attendance was staff liaison Carol De Jesus. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE NONE APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion was made to approve the minutes of March 14th meeting. FASHION & TEA EVENT (3- 30 -95) 1. EVALUATION OF PROGRESS Chairperson Mary Sue Lewis gave her evaluation of the event as a great success and she thanked everyone that assisted and participated on the event for a job well done Ms Lewis asked the Commissioners to give their evaluation of the event Commissioner Mazziotti indicated the decorations were beautiful the program was cute and that the Luncheon was great Ms. Mazziotti also said that the fashion show was nice. Commissioner Mazziotti questioned the absence of Evelyn Wells, founder of the Lynwood Women's Commission. She Mazziotti aforesaid the awards were beautiful but her only concern was that the event was to advertised and that it should have been for the women in the City of Lynwood. Ms. Mazziotti suggested an art display event since there are various Lynwood High School Students with art aptitudes. 0 Women's Commission April 11, 1995 Page 2 r� Chair Mary Sue Lewis explained to Commissioner Mazziotti that this event was designed as a fundraiser. Commissioner Ethel Pacheco said she loved the event. Commissioner Dr. Betty Jackson indicated that the Committee did a great job and informed the Commission that her absences were due to her being ill. Commissioner Verna Culp indicated that the event was different and that she has received many calls asking when this event will be on again. 2. PRESENTATION OF FINANCIAL REPORT Staff Liaison Carol De Jesus gave a presentation of the financial report. Chair Mary Sue Lewis asked Ms De Jesus if Council approved the purchase of 2 tables. Ms. De Jesus indicated that Council approve purchase of 3 tables CASINO NIGHT IN LYNWOOD EVENT Chair Mary Sue Lewis asked the Commissioners for suggestions for the tentatively Casino Nite After discussion on a date for the upcoming event, the Commission agreed on Friday, August 18, 1995, 6 30 - 7:00 p.m. social hour. Chair Lewis assigned Commissioner Pacheco as the lead person to this event. The following suggestions were made by the Commissionof things that should be considered for the upcoming event: Commissioner Mazziotti - Social event - Dancing She said she will try to get the singles club to purchase tickets. Commissioner Jackson - Bar (Ms Pacheco indicated that Angie has a bar license) - Black Jack Tables 4. Women's Commission April 11, 1995 page 3 Commissioner Pacheco - Dealers - Black Jack Tables - Dice table - Cards table STAFF ORALS Commissioner Dr. Betty Jackson suggested a trip to Las Vegas as a future event. She also invited the Commission to a Nurse Symposium for Thursday, April 11, 1995 @ Bateman Hall. Commissioner Della Mazziotti invited the Commission to a Drive by Agony March. She indicated that transportation was going to be provided by the City to take them to Olvera Street (Hall of Administration). Chair Mary Sue Lewis asked the Commission to prepare an agenda of future events based on their ideas. THERE BEING NO FURTHER BUSINESS, THE LYNWOOD WOMEN'S COMMISSION ADJOURNED AT 4:10 P.M.
