CONFERENCE ROOM AT CITY HALL
The regular meeting of the Women's Commission of the City of Lynwood, California was held
on Tuesday, March 14, 1995 at 3:00 p.m., in the Conference Room of the Lynwood City Hall,
11330 Bullis Road., Lynwood, California. The Agenda was duly posted as prescribed by the
Brown Act.
CALL TO ORDER
Mary Sue Lewis, Chair, called the meeting to order at 3:05 p.m. Roll call was taken by Carol de
Jesus, Staff Liaison. Commissioners in attendance were Ethel Pacheco, Verna Culp and Mary
Sue Lewis. Also in attendance were Friend of the Commission, Barbara Anthony and
Councilman Louis J. Heine.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Motion was made to approve the minutes of February 14, 1995
DISCUSSION ITEM ON WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH:
In celebration of the Women's History Month, the Lynwood Women's Commission planned to
hold a Fashion & Tea Event on Thursday, March 30, 1995 Discussed were the following
items:

Commissioner Pacheco reported that Bonnie from the Coffee Cup was willing to do the
catering service for the Commissioners' event at a cost of $4.50 per plate. The menu consisted
of cold sandwiches, some salads, cakes, coffee and punch. Commissioner Culp indicated that it
would be less expensive to get the sandwiches and cold cuts from Lucky's and for the
commissioners to do the food arrangements. Commissioner Pacheco was under the impression
that at the last call meeting held on March 7, 1995, commissioners agreed to acquire the
service of Coffee Cup. Staff Liaison Carol de Jesus indicated that Commissioner Della Mazziotti
has sent out letters to companies soliciting donation of flowers and cakes.
VENDORS' BOOTHS.
Commissioners and Friends of the Commission gave a list of vendors they have contacted so
far for the booths:
Commissioner Verna Culp:
a. Simply Unique owned by Sheila Scott ( deals in fashion accessories)
b. Original Creations owned by Ruth Daniels (specializes on handicrafts)
c. Authentic African Wear owned by Vera Mallet
Commissioner Mary Sue Lewis:

b. Eloise Evans (clothes) or Jones (jewelries)
Friend of the Commission Barbara Anthony
a. B. Anthony's Traffic Violators School Center (Certified Driving School Center)
b. Herbert Reed (desk top video conferencing system)
c. Ellis Construction (room additions, remodelling)
d. Safe T Apparel (safety equipments, first aid kits)
Friend of the Commission Ann Fields
a. Henry O'Bryant (choir robes)
b. Windsor Hills Christian Book Center
c. Supervisor Yvonne Brathwaite- Burke`s Office (pamphlets)
d. Akasisira Fashion (contemporary clothes)
Friend of the Commission Elizabeth Dixon

b. Women & Children Center
Others:
a. United Parents Organization headed by Maggie (arts & crafts)
b. Gigi's (parry supply)
PROGRAM:
The commissioners were provided an outline of the program by staff for review (see attached)
Commissioner Ethel Pacheco was assigned to do the Pledge of Allegiance and Commission
Chair Mary Sue Lewis to do the introduction of dignitaries, Council, Commissioners and
Friends. There was a suggestion that the door prizes be held immediately after the luncheon.
Staff Liaison Carol de Jesus indicated that Peggy Avila will be the commentator for the Fashion
Show She also reported that Ann Fields contacted Bernice Woods to fashion eight (8) hats at
the event and Henry O'Bryant's Inc. to fashion choir robes; Elizabeth Dixon spoke to Sherri
Johnson to render some songs and Hair Plus Company to do a make -over, and the city staff will
participate in the fashion show and model the clothes provided by Miss USA and Milbes Men's
Wear
The commission indirectly recapped the March 7 discussion meeting to include other numbers
of the program such as the 1) Auction to be handled by Councilman Heine and to be held at 2
pm instead of 2:30 p.m., 2) Presentation of honorees - Elizabeth Dixon, Ann Fields and Dorothy
Richards; and 3) Proper acknowledgment of Evelyn Wells as Founder of the Commission
through presentation of flowers. Commissioners stated that the honorees be presented with
some plaques. Commissioner Culp indicated that all monies collected from the vendors for the
booths should be turned in by the 25th of March.

1995, the Commission has collected the sum of S 925.25 for admission, vendor booths and auction.
At this time, we do not have a list of expenditure costs. This list will be furnished to you as soon as
we have received the bills.
I am endorsing to you the amount of S 925.25 collected by the Women's Commission. Please have
staff enter this amount to general fund 01 -4112 -4230.
