Imperial September 26, 1995 MINUTES The Block Watch Captains met for their regular membership meeting on September 26, 1995, 6:30 p.m. at Bateman Hall, 11331 Ernestine Ave., Room #2 Highway, Lynwood, CA. Thirteen (13) Block Watch Captains were in attendance. Staff present was Janice Thomas, Administrative Aide. Deputy David Haney of Century Sheriffs Station was also present. Ralph Davis, Director of the Recreation and Comrranity Scrvices entered .: --eting at 7.20 I. CALL TO ORDER Mr Percy Brown, Chairperson called the Block Watch Captain's meeting to order at 6:40 p m. IL INVOCATION Mayor Pro -Tem Louis Heine led the group in prayer III. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Captain Irene Garcia led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES It was MOVED by Captain Sybil Rufus, SECONDED by Captain Albert Raddle and CARRIED unanimously to approve the minutes of the August 22, 1995 meeting as distributed. V. REPORT BY STAFF Janice Thomas, staff announced the following: Town Hall Meeting at Lynwood Justice Center on Saturday, September 30, 1995, Character Count Week, October 16 -21, 1995, Block Parties. Captain Sandra McLeod at Ernestine and Platt, October 14, October 21 at 3850 Virginia /Cynthia Green - Geter, Block Captain. VI. OLD BUSINESS Captain Law was not in attendance and the item of the Town Hall meeting was tabled until the next meeting. Captain Evans had complaints of loud music and graffiti. The North Stoneacre Block Club submitted a written complaint regarding 12426 N Stoneacre Ave for prostitution and drug dealing. ,l VII. NEW BUSINESS Captain Roberto Carrillo announced that he would interpret for spanish speaking audience. It was MOVED by Captain Irene Garcia, SECONDED by Captain Sybil Rufus and CARRIED to send a certificate of appreciation to Captain Sadie Williams for her service as a Block Captain. Chairman Brown ask the group to bring ideas of suggestions for the Ohhh! Christmas Tree Program and other programs to the next meeting. The location of the meetings will be at Bateman Hall, 11331 Ernestine Ave. until further notice. Deputy Haney distributed fliers and spoke briefly on the Town Hall meeting scheduled for September 30, 1995 at the Century Sheriffs Station. Guest speakers would include Supervisor Yvonne Braithwaite Burke, Sheriff Sherman Block and others. VIII. PUBLIC ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Mayor Pro -Tem Heine announced the City of Lynwood will sponsor an Anti- Graffiti Day at Dymally Park, 9:00 a.m., 3798 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. On the anti - graffiti Day, the participants will paint and clean alleys. Deputy David Haney told of the curfew violators arrested during a police raid. This will be ongoing as part of the sheriff's crime prevention program. Deputy Haney attended North Stoneacre Avenue Block Club meeting. Also he explained to the group the Community Academy for citizens to enroll. This academy includes ride along, weapons training, K9 unit and special weapons training. Ralph Davis, Director of Recreation & Community Services Department asked that at the next meetings interpretations be incorporated. He would like to see this done in segregated areas in the room. DX. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS BY BLOCK CAPTAINS Chairman Brown asked that those in attendance to the Town Meeting bring questions for speakers. Block Watch Captain Sanchez was concerned about Hispanic language problem. Captain Garcia complained about 110th /Lorraine Street a house is vacant, weeds high and graffiti. Also 2668/110th HUD house 11621 Esther /Anderson undesirable living, drug deals and graffiti. At Peach /Imperial /Oakwood are parked cars on lawn. She announced that a Block Watch Club meeting was being held at Lincoln Elementary school on Friday, September 29th. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:1500 p.m. to the next regularly scheduled meeting October 24, 1995. block/agenda/=95.aga
