A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF LYNWOOD APPROVING THE IMPLEMENTATION
OF A CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the Los Angeles County Sanitation
Districts are encouraging those cities that have not yet
' implemented separate collection of green (yard and garden) waste
to take this opportunity to conduct a pilot program of separate
green waste collection; and
WHEREAS, green waste collection is an important
part of an aggressive program to divert wastes from disposal and
is currently in operation at Puente Hills, Scholl Canyon,
Calabasas and Spadra Landfills; and
WHEREAS, the Sanitation Districts as an added
incentive this year will be accepting clean loads of Christmas
trees at no charge if collection is sponsored by a Districts'
member city; and
WHEREAS, according to the City's Solid Waste
Generation Study included in the Solid Waste Reduction and
Recycling Element, yard waste constitutes 12.4% of the total
disposal waste stream; and
WHEREAS, the City can potentially divert 45.5 tons
of Christmas trees from disposal.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
LYNWOOD DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: That the City Council does hereby
approve the implementation of a Pilot Christmas Tree Recycling
Program.
SECTION 2: That the City Council appropriate
$407.25 into the City Manager's budget.
