HomeMy Public PortalAbout87-148 (10-06-87)RESOLUTION N0. 87 -148 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD 111 SUPPORT OF THE COALITION FOR PET POPULA- TION CONTROL. WHEREAS; The City of Lynwood recognizes the growing problem of pet overpopulation and the resultant increasing numbers of animals for which suitable homes cannot be found, and WHEREAS, Only small percentages of animals needing homes are adopted into families, the remaining multitudes of which must be humanely destroyed; and WHEREAS; The City-of Lynwood utilizes the animal control services provided by the Southeast Area Animal Control Authority; and WHEREAS; The Southeast Area Animal Control Authority accu- mulates funds from unclaimed and therefore forfeited monies required to be taken as deposits for spaying and neutering by State Assembly Bill 1663, and use of such forfeited funds is restricted by AB 1663 for specific functions related to spaying and neutering, including public education; and WHEREAS; The Southeast Area Animal Control Authority, together with other sheltering agencies in the County of Los ' Angeles, has founded a non - profit corporation known as the Coalition for Pet Population Control as an instrument to jointly, and therefore more effectively, utilize forfeited funds for the purpose of public education; and WHEREAS; The purpose of the Coalition for Pet Population Control is to utilize the written and electronic media to educate the public in spaying and neutering of their animals to prevent needless euthanasia of unwanted offspring; NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY OF LYNWOOD DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS SECTION 1. The City of Lynwood expresses its support of the Coalition for Pet Population Control and its intent. SECTIO14 2. The City of Lynwood will utilize the means at its disposal to aid in publicity campaigns launched by the Coalition for Pet Population Control, including City newsletters, cable television companies and newspaper releases. SECTION 3. The Southeast Area Animal Control Authority, the Animal Control Departments of the Cities of Los Angeles and Long Beach County of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, and the Humane Societies of the Pomona Valley, ' Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank, and San Gabriel, be commended for their, innovative and cooperative efforts in controlling animal overpopulation. SECTION 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. 0 PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED THIS 6th 1987. PAUL H.
